Nets Skip Sheriff's Congressional Slam of Eric Holder's 'Ugly' Comments
By Scott Whitlock | January 30, 2015 | 12:14 PM EST

The same networks that have repeatedly defended Eric Holder in the past are now quietly ignoring the congressional testimony of a Milwaukee sheriff who has slammed the Attorney General. Despite a combined eight hours of air time, CBS This Morning, Today and Good Morning America avoided covering David Clarke's outrage: "The incendiary rhetoric used by Eric Holder created a pathway for a false narrative that then became the rallying cry for cop haters across America."

The sheriff made his remarks while testifying at the confirmation hearings of Holder's replacement, Loretta Lynch. (The networks have mostly ignored Lynch's confirmations in general.) Only Fox News covered Clarke's broadside against the Attorney General.

Clarke derided Holder's comments in the wake of the shooting death of Michael Brown, saying of the AG's remarks: "[They] sparked unjustified hatred towards America’s law enforcement agencies and its officers." (As an example, Holder compared Brown's death to the racial murder of Emmett Till.)

Previously, the networks have fawned over Holder. On September 25,NBC's Chuck Todd told viewers that the AG is a "very non-political person." On June 14, 2012, ABC lamented that Holder has been "demonized" and "victimized" by Republicans. On April 10, 2014, CBS This Morning's Charlie Rose hyped the attorney general as "lashing out" at the GOP's "ugly" Capitol Hill "culture."

It's not as though there wasn't time for the story on Friday. All three networks devoted ample coverage to every aspect of the Super Bowl.

A transcript of the January 30 Fox and Friends brief is below:

HEATHER CHILDERS: And you have seen him here on Fox and Friends. But Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke was on Capitol Hill yesterday to call out Eric Holder for what he calls is a, quote, "anti-cop" attitude. This all unfolded at the confirmation hearing for the attorney general nominee Loretta Lynch.

DAVID CLARKE (Milwaukee County, WI Sheriff): The incendiary rhetoric used by Eric Holder created a pathway for a false narrative that then became the rallying cry for cop haters across America.

CHILDERS: The confirmation vote for Lynch is next month.

The Mainstream Media isn't the slightest bit interested in reporting the news or current events in an accurate, unbiased manner. It has a clear agenda that has no room for the truth.

Any hatred towards America’s law enforcement agencies and its officers was sparked by the agencies and officers actions. Quit unnecessarily killing unarmed people, and the hatred will eventually fade.

The American people don't believe anything until they see it on TV -Nixon

So the powers that be do their best to make sure no one sees it

"Hands up, don't shoot!" has got to be the most idiotic mantra ever. Even blacks have stopped using it, no doubt because of ridicule. Brown was a thug, and even Holder's Justice Department had to come to terms with that.

Teabaggers don't believe anything until they see it on fox, and will believe anything the see there no matter how wrong it is --- Me and every other sane person in the world.

I completely agree, but that has nothing to do with the topic at hand which is the bias of the mainstream media in favor of the Democratic Party.

Started partying early, huh? I'm not drinking yet, lucky you.

As a former member of the 'Fourth Estate' and one who once planned to make that my life's work, I am ashamed that most of the mainstream media thinks it is doing journalism these days. It isn't. It is primarily a propaganda machine to further an ideologically sociopolitical agenda. And as such has made itself untrustworthy to do honest research, honest investigation, or honest reporting.

Had that police officer been blasting Alberto Gonzales, it would have been the headline all over the country and would have led all the evening news telecasts. But because it was the Obama Administration. . .mostly crickets.

I hope I live long enough to once again see mostly fair and honest impartiality in the mainstream media.

MSM media isn't hardcore news...it is a synopsis of current events. Anyone who watches a football star and a beauty queen for their news is an idiot...just like those who think FNC and MSNBC are unbiased and report all of the news.

Blaming MSM for GOP failures is nonsense...self victimization that sounds like a black guy blaming whites for their personal failure.

Anyone whining about the MSM....hypocrites.

You probably need to reread the OP before you accuse me of being off subject. The claim said the hatred was caused by Holders remark. I offered another reason. That is certainly on topic.

Hmmm. Well if the MSM is not the place to expect hard core news, where do you suggest we go for hard core news?

Newspaper, internet. There is no single source. That is the problem with broadcasters and ex-broadcasters that couldn't hack it - they think news is more than it really is and become disalussioned when they realize anchors are nothing more than script readers with a pretty face and reporters are nothing more than underpaid researchers to make the anchors look good.

Yeah, there are biased producers, news directors and talent, but in the end...a 30 minute newscast can only cover so much. In the end, GMA and the rest of the morning shows are NOT hard news...it is couch news trying to relate to ditzy white females. They cover headlines...nothing more.

Bullfreakin Shit. It was and IS sparked by the BLACK community.

Newspapers ARE part of the MSM as are some internet websites. And they are all just as capable of dishonest bias as is the evening newscast on the free networks. The popularity of channels like CNN, MSNBC, or Fox News are because some people want more depth of information than can be provided in a 30-second news segment on the evening news.

But what 30-second news segments are included and what is not included on that evening newscast says as much about the integrity of journalism demonstrated by the producers as does what is actually said.
