It's a shame what goes on with regard to the foreign workers in Saudi Arabia and the oil-rich Gulf States.

If things had gone well, Ram Kumar Mahara would be working on a Qatari building site, earning around £120 a month helping the country to erect the infrastructure that will enable it to host the football World Cup in 2022.

But things didn't go well.

First there was the pay. Ram Kumar says there wasn't any. Then there were the conditions – 12-hour shifts, a shortage of food and finally, after a complaint to the manager, summary removal from the labour camp. It was so distressing that the 27-year-old Nepali lost his hair. After weeks in legal limbo at the Nepali embassy in Doha, he finally made it home. The nightmare was over, but a new one was just beginning.

Despite being deceived by his local agent, Ram Kumar places the blame for his ordeal squarely with the Kathmandu-based agency, Marvelous Employment Nepal. There are more than 700 registered recruitment agencies, known as manpower companies, in the capital, Kathmandu. They rely on a network of thousands of unregulated local agents, who send workers to them from across the country, often for extortionate fees.

"It is the manpower company that cheated me. I called them [from Qatar] after I did not receive my salary, but they just consoled me every time saying they would talk to the company," he said.

Marvelous Employment Nepal denied any wrongdoing. "We sent the return air ticket to bring Ram Kumar back from Qatar and we are no longer sending workers to that company. We offered to help him get a job in another country," said Kumar Gauli, the company's marketing director. "We are ready to negotiate with Ram Kumar and help him as much as we can. We are willing to return what he paid to us."

Marvelous Employment Nepal disputed Ram Kumar's claim that he did not receive any salary in Qatar.

Thank you, Joey, for showing us once again what a cheap Anti-Semitic Muslim you are who would probably take the money from a blind newspaper seller.. I think there have been enough articles written about how these foreign workers are treated in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf countries. By the way, Joey, try to find the video showing how the Hindus workers are being treated in Dubai. It is like they are modern-day slaves.

Mexican laborers who came to the U.S. under a temporary worker program are still waiting to be paid.

The vast majority are in their 70s or 80s. Some live in Mexico City, but others travel hours from other states to get there. Wearing sombreros to protect themselves from the sun, the braceros hang a large banner on the fence in front of the House that reads, “EPN [Mexican president Enrique Peña Nieto] Pay Us or Kill Us!” According to their organization, the Binational Bracero Proa Alliance, an average of 14 braceros die each day. Their cause is urgent.

In 2004, then-President Vicente Fox responded to protests, which have been on-going since the 1980s, and media pressure, giving former braceros one-time payments of 38,000 pesos, or just under $3,000—a figure that, in many cases, comes up short of the 10 percent owed.

“Although it is unclear whether Congress will reach an agreement on current immigration reform, both the Senate and House plans would increase the number of guestworkers,” Goodman and Zapata Rivera note. The new program as outlined in the immigration bill that’s already passed the Senate has been criticized for being unfair to guestworkers.

If Congress does manage to pass comprehensive immigration reform, we can only hope that it doesn’t result in a decades-long legacy of injustice.

As to how foreign workers are treated, should you not look closer to home?
“By the 1990′s Israel was established as a destination country for trafficking, and international sex trafficking victims had replaced the local market,” Hughes wrote. “Israel’s flesh trade was booming and making between half a billion to three quarters of a billion dollars a year. It was a particularly desirable market for traffickers because the purchase of sexual services was, and still is, legal in Israel. ”

“Throughout the 1990’s traffickers acted with impunity and, according to the Hotline for Migrant Workers, smuggled 3,000 women annually into Israel,” she added.

The deteriorating situation led the US State Department to rank Israel as a Tier 3 nation in its Trafficking in Persons report, the lowest ranking.

How Employers Cheat America’s Aging By Hiring Foreign Workers

One of the many reasons why the Social Security, Medicare, and Federal Unemployment Tax Act (FUTA) trust funds are in trouble is that American employers can avoid paying taxes to these funds by hiring certain classes of aliens, who, in turn, also do not pay these taxes.

The payroll tax loss for such a full-time worker at $30,000 a year was about $4,230 a year in 2010. That's a $2,535 bonus to the employer for hiring an alien rather than a U.S. citizen or a green card carrier and a $1,695 bonus to the alien worker, and thus a $4,230-a-year blow to the three trust funds collectively. At $60,000 a year, the damage to these funds is twice as great, or $8,460 a year.

There are over half a million of these pampered alien workers. A careless government, of course, does not keep track of these losses in payroll taxes. Why generate data on a subject you would rather ignore? The damage to the trust funds is remarkable, it is continuing and, sadly, the advocates of the elderly, such as AARP, are doing nothing about this problem.

The difficulty is that those who benefit from these tax breaks, corporations like Disney, are much more powerful than the retirees who are hurt by them. As too often is the case in America, the narrow, intense lobbies routinely beat the generalized, but low-key interests of the rest of us.

My mother in law said she would not vacation there again after hearing numerous reports of India imported workers being treated this way. Again with no pay. I believe it. What would be the motive in these workers fabricating such a horrific story? There isn't one. They are telling the truth.

hiring a foreign maid by the upper and middle class is common place.
Cleric recently issued a ruling that the maid should not be allowed to bath the children or should at lease have someone supervising to prevent sexual abuse.
Taking passports and paying half, or more, directly to their family is often part of the agreement
Should a girl get pregnant, if they are allowed to date choices are bleak. The employer can take her to get an abortion, so her family never finds out; return her to her family where she will be punished, or killed; help her to get asylum so she can have her baby; make arrangement for her to wed the boyfriend.
My mother could not stand having someone around all the time, we tried it a few times. She preferred to have someone come once a week to do the cleaning.

Naturally, Sunni Man has no problem with the horrendous way the Saudis treat their maids, like throwing them out of the window. In medical buildings here, the caregivers for the elderly appear to be people from the Philippines, and they certainly don't have it so bad. These Filippinas are very, very caring people especially when it comes to the elderly, and that is probably why you see many Filippina nurses working in hospitals. I have heard in Israel that the caregivers for the elderly are also Filipinas who love living in Israel that they never want to lose their visas. They have their own shops there and churches in which to attend services. I wonder if Sunni Man can tell us of any churches in Saudi Arabia where these Filipina workers can attend. After all, they are devout Catholics, and the church is a big part of their lives.

Immigrant's get cheated out of their wages in many countries of the world regardless of the religion of the employer.

Here in America hispanic people get ripped off for their money all of the time.

Heck, they just arrested some people in my city for forcing illegal immigrants to work for slave labor wages and live in deplorable conditions.

But according to Silly-Sally this only happens in muslim countries. .... :cuckoo:

I think, Mr. Cuckoo, that everyone here realizes that immigrants here get cheated out of their money. However, evidently you have not read about the horrtendous conditions these laborers work under in the oil-rich Muslim countries. Many immigrants here if they are ambitious eventually can work themselves up and get paid much better, and so many have sent their children on to college.. Who do you think is working on the construction sites as drywall specialists, roofers, etcs.? Anyhow, I hope that should Mr. Cuckoo need a caretaker in his later years, he is fortunate enough to get a Filipina one. As one doctor told me, it is the Filipina caretakers who are keeping two of his 90-year old patients alive.

Sorry, Mr, Cuckoo, but I am unable to see whatever silly picture you are posting. However, that's OK since it probably wasn't important anyway. Just remember to get yourself a nice Filipina caretaker should you ever require one. You will be happy you did.

Quit lying for once in your life......... :cuckoo:

Mr. Cuckoo, I am not a liar like you are. Many times people send me pictures that I can't see. All I see is a little box with an x in them instead of the actual picture. Give me the site where you got the picture, and perhaps I can pick it up there. Just remember what I said about Filipina caretakers.

Silly-Sally you constantly lie all of the time.

Your posts are full of lies.......everyone knows that you lie......so why deny it?? ... :eusa_hand: :cuckoo:

My dear Mr. Cuckoo, perhaps now that you consider many of us Infidels, you feel it is you who can lie to us all the time. Was it really that difficult to post the web address where you got the picture so those of us who couldn't see it on the forum could look it up there? What is the problem? Is the site you got it from that terrible that you don't want us to know?
