Hundreds of veterans from Waffen-SS Latvian Legion and its supporters took part in an annual parade in the country’s capital Riga on Monday, despite warnings from the U.S. embassy that it may escalate into violence. The participants of the march walked toward central Riga's Freedom Monument even as several anti-fascist organizations arranged counterprotests in the city.
Police officials in Riga were prepared for possible emergency situations, Sputnik News reported. Konstantin Dolgov, Russian foreign ministry's human rights ombudsman, reportedly said that the march hurt the sentiments of the World War II victims and called upon the European Union to stop the "violation of the international law."

What are their doing with their own history?

Wonder if they marched to the nearby Museum of Occupation where they made visits to the cells and dungeons , implements of torture and list of murdered Latvian citizens during the Soviet occupation. Did the 90 year old veterans cause problems?

Good point.

The three Baltic states were overrun by Stalin in 1939 and then subjected to the usual treatment...imprisonment, execution, and Soviet state terrorism. Naturally they sided with the Germans when they invaded in 1941, which most Baltic citizens felt was liberation.

This in no way is meant to minimize the terrible Antisemitism Jews experienced by citizens of the Baltic nations and Germans.

Most Americans don't even know Stalin invaded the Baltics in 1939.
