National Sales Tax

I think it is time to remove the income tax completely and replace it with a national sales tax of about 3% nationwide. Unlike other national sales tax proposals that try to replace a wide range of other taxes such as cap gains, death tax, social security, and medicare this would only replace the income tax. This way it can be a much smaller amount than the proposed 30%.

I really don't mind if we have a cap gains tax as much as I mind an income tax because it is the most difficult tax to pay for anyone. Someone who is rich might be able to afford it but would not expand their businesses knowing that what they work for will be gobbled up and someone who is poor see a lot of their hard earned money evaporate to the government.

The tax should be replaced with something else for that reason alone.

Nah. I like income taxes, if we don't have jobs we can't pay taxes.
