Teachers across several states are patrolling hallways searching for students in possession of snack food contraband but there’s one hot & spicy treat that is Enemy Number One – Flamin’ Hot Cheetos.

“We don’t allow candy, and we don’t allow Hot Cheetos,” Rita Exposito, principal of Jackson Elementary School in Pasadena, Calif., told the Chicago Tribune. “We don’t encourage other chips, but if we see Hot Cheetos, we confiscate them – sometimes after the child has already eaten most of them.”

Yes, you read that correctly. Teachers at Jackson Elementary school confiscate contraband bags of Cheetos.

A spokesman for the Pasadena School system told Fox News that the ban was part of a district-wide wellness policy – and that most of the guidelines come from the federal government.

The spokesman said during school hours they are responsible for the students – and that includes their health.

There are reports of similar Cheetos crackdowns in Illinois and New Mexico.

In Albuquerque, a seventh grade health teacher sent a letter to parents calling for a ban on the Frito-Lay product.

The teacher at Lyndon B. Johnson M idle School warned parents that Hot Cheetos are not only unhealthy but can also spread germs – because the students share their Cheetos. The teacher also complained to parents that the snack food is too messy.

“They have that red dye in them and the kids get that all over their hands and track it all over everything and the custodians have to clean it up,” Albuquerque Schools spokesman John Miller told Fox News. “They’re not big fans of that.”...

Just another screwed up consequence of the government monopoly on affordable education.

Come on Socialists.

LOL You'd better take a closer look at the laws which lead to this kind of stuff and notice how many health Nazi's there are on the right side of the aisle. A good place to start your investigation is in Arkansas while Mr. Christian Conservative Mike Huckabee was Governor.

Glad to see the leaders of our education institutions have their priorities in order!

It isn't a matter of Republican vs Democrat on all issues. It's a matter of calling out stupidity where ever it rears it's ugly head. If someone in my party or my group does something stupid, I'll be even harder on them because I don't want to painted with the same brush as they will be.

There have been some incredibly controlling teachers and I have no idea what party they belong to. This Cheetos business is just the latest in a string of idiotic decisions made by those in our education system that seek to control behavior.

I remember some teachers who sought to prevent children from having best friends and they actually stopped children from always playing with the same children at recess. They literally forced them apart and made the children play with others. Meanwhile, experts say that children who have at least one best friend tend to be happier and better adjusted.

Some teachers wanted to force children to eat certain foods, claiming they were racist if they refused to eat certain things, like tacos. I guess they don't understand how some children are just picky eaters when it comes to trying new things.

Some school systems bus children long distances to ensure that all schools in the area are perfectly color balanced. Parents who moved to certain areas because they liked the school there were mighty upset. And it was a longer day for children who had long bus rides to and from school every day.

Many schools removed soda and candy machines years ago. Ours hasn't had them for at least ten years. I can see that, but don't like schools extending their authority to what parents allow their children to eat. I would have been livid if anyone at the school had inspected my children's sack lunches from home. If children have poor eating habits, the school likely can't do much about it anyway. I've seen kids throw away so much healthy food. Some ate the dessert and drank the milk, but that was all. Whatever habits they developed at home will follow them to school. Some parents have blown it, but schools can't control all students. You can take food away from them, but you can't force them to eat anything.

It's one thing to have a rule on eating outside of the lunchroom, which would make more sense. We were never allowed to eat anywhere but the lunch room or student lounge. And we didn't have a student lounge till high school. Why don't they just remind students to wash their hands, which they should do anyway with flu season here. Or make the children clean up the hot Cheetos fingerprints they leave. The kids will get around the rule by eating their messy snacks on the way to school. If the parents haven't taught their children well, the children already have bad habits that are impossible for schools to break.

I know that some really just want to help, but must realize that attempting to force people will just cause them to rebel. You can educate people, but you cannot control their behavior.

I never allowed my children sweets during flu season. Germs in the air are actually attracted to sugar and you're more likely to get sick eating sugary foods in public. Just thought I'd share that.

Okay, I am not in favor of banning most snacks at school but Cheetos, seriously, have you any idea the mess the make? That orange stuff gets everywhere. It's like having a toddler than never grew up and continues to get food everywhere.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go get me some Cheetos.

Damn, I misread the title and thought this was about keeping pet cheetahs. I was ready to get on my soapbox.

Educating people to eat healthier makes sense, but these bans are kind of silly when the schools ignore a much bigger problem that they could actually do something about, and that is lack of exercise for these kids. Make gym class mandatory for all kids on period per day, and run their asses off. Yes, it would take away from academic class time, but the benefits would be so beneficial, I would suggest it would even lead to better grades for most students.

The biggest reason our kids are fat is because they don't get enough exercise. Diet is only part of the problem. The exercise part is much easier to fix.

Spoken like a true Nanny/Police Stater. Always trying to force your agenda on others. Fortunately, most Americans are completely sick of you idiots.
