My new pet, Eva

Everyone, meet Eva, my new pet snake!

She's a year old California Kingsnake, measuring about 12-15 inches long. She'll get to about 5 ft. long as she grows up. She likes burrowing in her aspen shavings, and making tunnels. I didn't know if she would eat or not after I brought her home, but when I offered her a mouse, she inhaled it right the and there.

I have been taking care of my sons mothers chinchilla. That is absolutely the coolest animal alive.

Sad kids have no clue about Rikki or the Jungle Book except what Disney put into movies…

I remember my best friend had a birthday party for his daughter when she was two and I bought her a Winnie the Pooh novel and they just wanted Elmo gifts…

Did you know she thanked me years later because it was the only gift she kept after she got over Elmo?

So today kids are missing out on great stories of love and bravery but hey at least they can switch genders…

My kid is from Gen Z, I both read him the Jungle Book when he was in elementary school, and we rented the movie. Not to be missed.

Everyone should be familiarized with the classics, IMO. That's just part of the bare necessities.

Nice! I had one exactly that species and size about 20 years ago. I named her Tequila. What time she disappeared for about 6 weeks.... And then one day just happened to crawl out from behind a wall and start slithering up an extension cord and I got her back again for a while. Another time I was standing outside with someone and she actually slithered out of the wall of the house and I grabbed her and put her back in her tank. Eventually she got away and didn't come back and I had to move away so that was that. California king snakes are very fast. If I ever had a snake again... Which I might... I'd probably just opt for a ball python.

I'm already considering getting another snake (different cage). Maybe a ball python, as well. They're really beautiful snakes.

I know exactly who Rikki-Tikki-Tavi is, I was homeschooled.


The reason I named her Eva, was that I was reading a book called "A Higher Call". It is a true story about an anti-Nazi German pilot, sparing the lives of a B-17 crew, and escorting them over German flak crews so they could fly back to England safely. The German pilot and American pilot, Franz Stigler, and Charlie Brown, searched for each other after the war and found each other, and became great friends late in their lives.

Franz's Bf-109 had a Nose-art on the side under the cockpit, an apple with a worm coming out of it, and the name "Eva" above the apple. I don't know why, but I liked the picture and the name, so I chose Eva as a name. I want to recreate the nose-art, but instead of a worm, it's a kingsnake around the apple.
