This is bad.

The unvaccinated are costing us billions in medicare. The article didn't have any numbers on medicaid or private insurance but I would be willing to bet it's just as high.

It's going to cause everyone's insurance premiums to go up. The insurance companies aren't just going to eat the cost of this. The executives and stockholders have to get their millions so someone is going to have to pay.

Guess who that will be?

Medicare needs to be properly funded without politicians stealing from it so the rich can have tax cuts.

The bill for this pandemic is going to be astronomical. It's not going to be free.

All of this can be avoided with two very cheap shots in the arm.

You do know that a lot of black folks use medicare?

We need to sue every antivax pundit, organization, and politician. Not the government, I mean we. All the Democratic taxpayers who are actually gonna be paying that bill need to sue them individually. Hundreds of thousands of lawsuits all at once.

Unfortunately like the Texas abortion bill, the government can't grant standing or allow enforcement by the general population. The USSC long ago said that even as a taxpayer who bears the burden of paying for government waste, that still does not constitute the direct harm needed to have standing.

The only chance is as a class action, but it would be almost impossible to create an equitable class of 140 million taxpayers.

It does harm us directly, and the Supreme Court already declined to stop the Texas bill. I say we give it a shot. Taste of their own medicine and all that.

Actually it would give the supreme court the chance to strike down both actions.

Taxpayer standing is the concept that any person who pays taxes should have standing to file a lawsuit against the taxing body if that body allocates funds in a way that the taxpayer feels is improper. The United States Supreme Court has held that taxpayer standing is not by itself a sufficient basis for standing against the United States government.[56] The Court has consistently found that the conduct of the federal government is too far removed from individual taxpayer returns for any injury to the taxpayer to be traced to the use of tax revenues, e.g., United States v. Richardson.

Based on that, how a person has standing to sue someone who assisted an abortion would take a complete twisting of the law.

Exactly.

The waste of dollars and lives could have been easily avoided; this is solely the fault of the willfully ignorant and their unwarranted, wrongheaded opposition to being vaccinated.

True, but the courts (except for the texas abortion bill) would say this is a job for the legislature/ government, not the people.

That the government can't allow "vigilante" justice over rule of law.

This won’t be the last pandemic; the wrongheaded, willfully ignorant will be responsible again for the next pandemic spreading out of control.

Since heart disease costs more than 400 billion each year, we should be focused on fat people. Especially since fat people are also the ones who the chump change covid costs that the thread is about represent.

This fails as both a false comparison fallacy and a red herring fallacy.

The thread topic is about the fact that those willfully ignorant and in unwarranted opposition to being vaccinated have caused a monumental – and easily avoidable – financial burden on the nation as a whole.

Know what Medicare and insurance companies need to do? Same thing Delta Airlines did with their workers who refuse to vax. Show us your CDC card, or else your Medicare supplemental or other insurance rate will go up $200 bucks a month.

Why should the rest of us pay for morons? :dunno:
