I recently saw a movie called Tree of Life with Sean Penn and Brad Pitt. The movie was very well done and powerful. It got me to wondering....are there films out there that you would recommend, or that really spoke to you?

I ask this because it seems increasingly rare to come across a really good movie. Most are just loud and stupid, or too preachy.

So what do you think?

I'm still trying to think of a movie that has had a 'powerful impact', but one I saw recently I liked a lot and found it quite charming and well acted.

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel

Also,

The Darjeeling Limited

If you like films that take place in India.

Both are 'charming' films that take place in India with Westerners as the central characters.

Both with a message, but not terribly didactic or preachy.

There is also:

Enchanted April, which takes place in Italy, a beautiful, wistful, Italian setting.

None of these are new films. They can be rented or gotten from Netflix.

Arlington Road. That ending was so disturbing because it could have been real. JMO

Is that like Romancing the Stone?

These genres are intriguing. I saw Sense and Sensibility last night, and I couldn't stop chuckling.

My wife's first answer was Sense and Sensibility. Great movie.

war of the roses

I watched that movie shortly after it came out with a buddy who had just gotten divorced. He kept saying....."man it's just like that!"

I wasn't married yet. The film scared the shit out of me. :)

LOL It's cheaper to keep her

I like this old movie, based on a true story...
