Even though it's nearly 40 years old, it's not quite dated yet. Substitute any other socialist/communist nation and the opening scenes will work. The rest of the movie, showing an "immigrant" adjusting to American life and ways is both entertaining and timeless.

It co-stars María Conchita Alonso (in her film debut), Elya Baskin as the circus clown, Savely Kramarov as one of two KGB apparatchiks, Alejandro Rey as the musician's immigration attorney, and Cleavant Derricks as his first American host and friend.
