China Exempts 16 Types of U.S. Products from Retaliatory Tariffs ahead of Trade Talks with U.S. | International Trade Law
On September 11, 2019, China’s Ministry of Finance announced exemptions for sixteen (16) U.S. product lines from its retaliatory tariffs against the United States.
The products excluded by the Chinese Ministry of Finance include shrimp, various oils such as mineral oils and lubricating oils, anti-cancer drugs, whey protein, and fish meal.

BEIJING, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- The Customs Tariff Commission of the State Council will exclude some agricultural products such as soybeans and pork from the additional tariffs on U.S. goods, official sources said Friday.
China supports domestic companies in purchasing a certain amount of U.S. farm produce in line with the rules of the market and the World Trade Organization, according to sources with the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Commerce.

Looks like China is hungry for some U.S. pork and beans.

Trump understands leverage better than any president in my lifetime.

You guys know we have in first, right? And that both sides really do want a solution?

No, I didn't know that. As long a Pelosi is House Speaker and the House is ruled by the current crop of petite communist wanna-be's, they will never allow anything that would make Trump look good.

Even to the point of destroying this country. That' how hateful, spiteful, and pig-headed they are.

Lets first see what they demand in return.
They're in no position to demand anything and Trump knows it.

To understand why, you first need to take off your partisan blinders and forget all the fakestream news spin and bullshit talking points about Trump's trade war causing China to hurt our farmers by putting huge tariffs on pork and soybeans and I'll break it down for the forum.

Right now, China needs food and fodder and the favored source of protein in China is pork and the primary source of fodder for their domestic swine is soybean meal. Half a year ago they didn't need food and fodder because they were swimming in it.

In fact, because of the African Swine Fever epidemic they were trying to export their pork rather than import it because the Chinese suddenly had more dead pigs on their hands than they could possibly consume domestically. ASF is a hemorrhagic fever akin to ebola for pigs, only it spreads easier and it has decimated China's domestic swine population. In fact, the USCPB seized 50 shipping containers loaded with over a million pounds of illegal Chinese pork that was smuggled to a New Jersey port 6 months ago.

Now China is facing food shortages and that's why they are in no position to demand anything. In fact, Trump could get even more leverage over them by threatening an embargo.

We will see. Any link?

If Dems and snowflakes had their way we would have surrendered by now and would be back down on our knees before China just so we could go back to buying their cheap crap...

I missed this thread. Thanks for the info.

CHINA SYNDROME: Popular heartburn drug Zantac pulled off market.

“The FDA recently announced that ranitidine, sold over-the counter as Zantac, contains low levels of a substance that could cause cancer. In the past year, the same chemical found in Zantac —NDMA–was discovered, in the blood pressure medication—Losartan, prompting a major recall.”

Is it time to look harder at whether the US should import drugs made in China?

Heck yes. The quality control in China is horrible. I won't buy any drug made there.

We’re these tariffs in effect before Trump started this stupid trade war?

Trump's Trade work with China is very smart. They can either stop cheating and stealing from us, one of their very best customers, or they can pay more in tariffs. Right now China has gone with "pay more in tariffs", but. Trump's still helping them identify their price point.

Trump has been very clear to China, stop stealing from us or the price you pay to access US Markets is going to increase.

Before Trump, our policy makers routinely sold us out to China.

American Taxpayers Are Subsidizing Ultra-Cheap Shipping From China.

“At today’s rates, the shipping of a 100-gram parcel to Fairfax, Virginia, would cost a small business in Marion, North Carolina, at least $1.94…but it would cost a company in Shanghai only $1.12,” Paul Misener, Amazon’s vice president for global public policy, told Congress in 2015. “This has left thousands of American small businesses at a competitive disadvantage against foreign competition…because of the size of the hidden shipping subsidies.”

Foreign mail weighing less than 4.4 pounds arrives at U.S. “transfer points,” where it is then distributed by the USPS like regular domestic mail, but at subsidized “terminal dues” rates set by the UPU, not by the U.S. Postal Service.

Dumb.

But:

An “extraordinary congress” convened by the UPU in October finally addressed the disparity. UPU members voted to allow the U.S. and other countries to set new reimbursement rates beginning in July 2020. Terminal dues could increase anywhere from 125 percent to 600 percent, according to Cathy Roberson of Air Cargo World. Whatever the change, American tax dollars will no longer be used to benefit one group of businesses over another.

#Winning.

Postal agencies around the globe sighed in relief this October as the Trump administration allowed America to remain a member of the Universal Postal Union (UPU). Founded in 1874, the 194-nation organization guarantees the delivery of international mail by brokering shipping rates across borders. The Trump administration said in 2018 that if rates didn't change (for China in particular), the US. would withdraw from the group.

For decades, the US Tax Payer Subsidized U.S. Postal Service has charged some countries less than it charges US shippers to move packages within the United States.

China's rates were the focus of the standoff because of the sheer amount of small packages arriving from China to the U.S. each year, and also because China benefits from rates meant to aid developing or "transition" countries. "China is included in the same group as Libya, Kazakhstan, and others making it eligible for higher preferential rates," Misener told Congress. China was certainly a transition country in the 1960s, but it is now a global economic powerhouse.
