More US weapons to Islamic extremists

Once again, we see the disaster known as American foreign policy put modern weapons into the hands of extremists.
This time it's the idiocy of supplying weapons to the Iraqi army, an untrained group of suspicious loyalties.
That lot, deliberately or cowardly, abandoned their posts and weapons to the attacking forces.

All those brand new, US supplied guns, tanks, missiles and god knows what, are all in the hands of a well trained, battle seasoned fighting force.

After Saddam was deposed, Sunnis of Iraq were aimless. Al Queda quickly stepped in to fill the vacuum. However, it looks like Sunni ambitions in Iraq have surpassed what Al Queda can fulfill. Now, we have ISIS or ISIL to fill the vacuum. The dynamics in the middle east except for few exceptions is always such that anyone who ups the ante in the department of extremism will always become a popular hero. Proof of that is: Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi is more highly regarded than Osama bin Laden today among Sunnis.

The local political hero is of little concern, the stupidity of supplying arms to a weak government in danger of collapse, is.
We could all see the more extreme groups taking land back once American forces had left, it's just happened faster than anyone really expected, probably including the militant groups.
We now have a very well armed fighting force with sod all morals, perfectly happy to murder prisoners.
That little show is clearly designed to make the Iraqi army bugger off home and leave the whole country open to their forces to walk in without any serious fight.

Those arms will very likely find their way to Syria and other troubled countries in the region; not to mention used to kill American troops in that mess of a country.

I, ENTHUSIASTICALLY, agree that arming muslims is always a mistake. The USA has played the
"this sect of jihadist pigs against that sect of jihadist pigs" many times------it has always been a
disaster leading to the classical "thank-you note" -----to wit ----A DAGGER IN THE BACK. I
am old enough to remember when the "Taliban" were considered "good guys" by normal people.
I have been around enough to know that they are still heroic mujahadin in the masjids and
madressahs......... and halal grocery stores

The United States and Iran on Monday signalled increased willingness to work together to arrest the expanding Sunni insurgency in Iraq, with Secretary of State John Kerry openly suggesting such a collaboration would be constructive, and another American official saying the subject could come up at talks this week on the Iranian nuclear dispute.
Cooperation between the US and Iran to contain the Iraqi crisis would represent the first time the two countries — estranged adversaries for more than three decades — have jointly undertaken a common security purpose since they shared military intelligence to counter the Taliban in Afghanistan in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks 13 years ago.
Kerry, in an interview with Yahoo News, called the advance by insurgents under the banner of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria over the past week an “existential threat” to Iraq, and suggested American airstrikes were one possible answer. Asked if the US would cooperate with Iran to thwart ISIS, Kerry said, “I wouldn’t rule out anything that would be constructive.”
A senior Obama administration official said that Deputy Secretary of State William J Burns may talk to the Iranians about Iraq at the nuclear talks, which are to reconvene on Wednesday in Vienna. “There may be discussion of that on the margins,” the official said, speaking on the condition of anonymity.
A State Department spokeswoman, Jen Psaki, later sought to more precisely define the nature of any cooperation, asserting it would be entirely political.
