After several days of steering clear of the Republican National Committee's decision to formally censure GOP Reps. Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger, Mitch McConnell tore the Band-Aid off on Tuesday.

Asked by CNN's Manu Raju whether he had confidence in RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel, McConnell said he did. But then the Senate GOP leader added this:

"The issue is whether or not the RNC should be sort of singling out members of our party who may have different views from the majority. That's not the job of the RNC."

McConnell wasn't done. As for the events of January 6, 2021, which the resolution condemning Cheney and Kinzinger had described as "legitimate political discourse," the Kentucky Republican was similarly blunt.

"We all were here; we saw what happened," said McConnell. "It was a violent insurrection for the purpose of trying to prevent the peaceful transfer of power after a legitimately certified election from one administration to the next. That's what it was."

Damn what has gotten into Ole Mitch.

Let's see how long it takes for the Trump Humpers to start smelling blood in the water.

Mitch is done. The most powerful leader in America today is Donald J Trump. He’s more powerful than anybody in the Democratic Party he’s more powerful than anybody in the Republican Party.. you’re gonna have to deal with us
And that includes getting rid of Mitch in a leadership position. His fricken nose has turned a blazing brown from being up the rear-ends of the Democrat Party Leadership. He needs to go!

JWK

Damn what has gotten into Ole Mitch.

I guess Mitch got the phone call he's been dreading in the middle of last night. He can either take some of Hunter's bribe money from China like a good Repug, or turn up face down next to Bob Dole.

Mitch got scared.

McConnel is completely wrong. The definition of insurrection is an attempt to take over the govt by force. The rioters did not do that. They raised hell for 3 hours and then left.

Smacked down? McConnell has to be crazy to give an interview with the hostile confused leaderless CNN but you can bet that the tax exempt Media Matters will be ready with a quick sound bite designed to implicate the Senate majority leader in a conspiracy. Meanwhile the Country falls apart under a confused president and CNN ain't paying attention.

When Mitch see's polling numbers and the chances of getting smoked (GOP) in upcoming elections he has to do what he's known for. Controlling the party and it's future. He see's way more than you and I.
