Zone1 Minimum wage and Social security benefits.

Todd thinks he is some super productive elitist who scorns the working class as worthless. It's also apparent he's never run a business or filled out a tax return, and believes in 'social Darwinism', where his inheritance makes him a superior genetic specimen compared to uppity proles. He's never had a real job, either, which is obvious. He thinks food and gas and real estate never increase in price and don't belong in CPI calculations, suddenly touting fake govt. numbers whenever it suits his ideological nonsense. He's always asking stupid one liner questions, not having the capacity to manage links besides FreeRepublic and Town Hall, which his older sister bookmarked for him and showed him how to click on those and the govt. sites. He even so conceited he thinks my post was an answer to his.

You're lying.

Are you still making minimum wage?

Agree with your arguments, but what is meant by "the company abusing new employee hires" is simply looking back on experiences of rogue companies or corrupt company owner's deciding to use cheap illegal labor for the purpose of leveraging that type of labor against American citizen employee labor, and it was all in order to hold wages to a minimum while building on that bottom line in a scheme to get filthy rich at the top while forcing the American entry level or 3 to 4 year veterans to lose out in the scheme of it all.

The American workforce has to have protections in place against corrupted greedy individual's making their way to the top controlling office's of major employer's.

Minimum wage worked just fine for right up to the 1960's. Those who don't like it are either just labor racketeers or as I said, have never run a business and are just parroting some ideological rubbish put out by Chamber Of Commerce shills. They also advocate flooding the country with the rest of the world's poor and desperate, i.e. libertoons.

The original purpose of the minimum wage was to price unskilled blacks out
of the job market.

Are people who run a business in favor of the minimum wage laws? Why?

They also advocate flooding the country with the rest of the world's poor and desperate

We need to secure the border and deport 20 million illegal aliens. To start.

Let the market decide wages, scrap minimum wage. Sad state of affairs, but some folk are not worth minimum wage and some are worth more. Free up the wage budget.

For example, you employ two guys and let's say minimum wage is $10. As you're building up the company in tough times, that's your max wage budget. But one guy is worth $8 and the other guy $12.
I don't like it but I think it might be the only solution to tell you the truth. When the truth is ugly only a lie can be beautiful.

Markets aren't free, and never have been re labor; Silly Con Valley is notorious for companies colluding to keeping wages low with non-compete agreements and between companies not to poach each others' employees, in the meantime they make up lies about 'labor shortages n stuff' and get the FEd to subsidize training their employees for them, then hire green cards instead of Americans.

And, it;s not the govt.s job to provide companies with cheap labor. If you can;t afford to pay people then you aren't doing any real business or you're in a market already glutted and your business is unnecessary.

What you want is welfare for incompetent management, not 'free markets'.

Why is it that the federal government amazingly found the money tree when it came to supporting Ukraine, and the talk about supporting it for as long it takes, but Americans have undoubtedly been lied to for year's when it came to a federal minimum wage stagnation, and the stagnation of social security benefits for seniors over 65 year's old in this country ?

The citizens should be totally outraged at our federal government for not keeping our social security solvent and in an updated state of review that helps the senior's deal better with inflation and cost of living changes.

As far as minimum wage goes, I ask why in the hell are we still at 7.25 an hour nation wide per the federal government since 2009 ? By now that number should have at least increased to $10.00 dollars an hour in 2024.

Think about it folks, let's say you make 40 hours at 7.25 an hour, and that's before taxes. That's only $290.00 dollars before taxes. The only hope a person has to survive after a 40 hour week is to work two jobs if paid $7.25 an hour.
Now with these things said, I am for a meritocracy, but I'm not for exploitation of worker's or seniors because the numbers are being set to low.
Minimum wage should never be considered a living wage for long and only a tiny percent of working Americans who start at minimum wage stay there for more than at most a few weeks. They either get raises and start working their way to a living wage or they find a better job. But because it doesn't cost the employer an arm and a leg to hire and train an inexperienced person at minimum wage, many many people are given opportunity to gain experience, skills, work ethics, references that allows them to merit a living wage. Most of those content with minimum wage are usually part timers who just want a little extra spending money or maybe just something to do with their time.

When my husband and I married long ago, he was in occupations that caused us to be transferred a lot. We agree early on that he was the primary bread winner and I would be the one to start over in each new place. That resulted in me having a lot of jobs and a very eclectic professional career. But I accepted minimum or near minimum wage several times to get my foot in the door and prove my worth to an employer. I never stayed at minimum wage for long.

With some, where's the incentive to do a good job or better yourself if they know they're gonna get $xx.xx per hour anyhow?

I remember the days where the last firm I worked at, starting wage was above minimum wage and the better working staff on higher rates. Then the UK started ramping up minimum wage. I still keep in touch with ex-colleagues (managers) and apart from one to two staff, everyone is just on minimum wage. And with Employers National Insurance (NI) changes, things are gonna get worse for staff. For an employer to avoid paying NI on the employee, they would have to offer a maximum 7 hour contract, with no overtime.

The OP reflects a disturbing lack of knowledge about Basic Government Stuff - Stuff that every working adult should know implicitly.

Social Security is NOT PART OF THE FEDERAL BUDGET! They count it for some purposes, but income tax dollars CANNOT be spent to supplement Social Security, because the program is unconstitutional and the only way it got through the Supreme Court's scrutiny was to ensure that it is separately funded. It is funded by PAYROLL taxes (as is Medicare), that are collected and figuratively put into a trust fund that is reserved for SS and nothing else. In the years when Boomers were at their peak earnings, the trust fund was overflowing with money, so Congress "borrowed" some of the surplus to fund current year expenditures, and is now paying that back.

The SS trust fund will never run dry, although if nothing were done to shore it up, it would be depleted in 8-10 years. Congress won't let that happen, and will convene a special committee of some sort to adjust things and make it solvent again. The maximum salary subject to the tax will either be greatly increased or the max will be eliminated altogether. We'll see. But don't fret about SS running out of money because (a) it won't, and (b) even if it did, that wouldn't stop SS payments, merely change it to a pay-as-you-go proposition which would decrease payments by about 20%.

The Federal Minimum Wage - also unconstitutional - must be irrelevant in order to do no harm. That is to say, it must be so low that it really makes no difference except on the extreme margins of the economy.

To illustrate the point, the Federal MW is irrelevant where I live. Employers MUST pay at least $10/hr or literally no one will work for them, except possibly retired bastards like me who are looking to get out and see some people when they are not taking naps. Therefore, if the Federal MW were increased to $10/hr, that would be totally irrelevant in my area.

Even the Democrats in Congress know this, which is why they have made no serious attempt to implement a $15MW despite talking like they support the idea. And when they do draft proposals, it's not for a $15MW TOMORROW, but implemented slowly over a period of at least five years.

A $15 MW would have no impact in big cities, but a significant impact is large portions of the country, where entry level wages are the lowest. The $15MW (if implemented immediately) would cause a lot of small business failures, job losses and/or reduction in hours for many people, and people working "under the table" in unprecedented numbers.

A "high" MW wage is a path out of poverty for NOBODY. That path comes from getting better jobs, getting promotions, learning a skill or trade, or starting your own small business. And this is where our immigrants have a lot to teach our native-born poor people, who fail to see the abundant opportunities that are out there.

So are you saying our poor people are lazy? I don't see that. They're working harder than ever.

Get rid of the guy working less

I made ten bucks an hour in 1983.

You wanna look into UK employment law, easier said than done. I've worked with the type Obama guys, "All talk with shite standards". They get into the job because they have the patter.
WTF is an Obama guy? I worked with all types and ran my own business for 35 years there are ways to get people to quit without firing them.

WTF is an Obama guy?
Obama was a, "Fine words butter no parsnips", guy. He had the talk, the patter, but was as much use as tits on a fish. The type of person that achieved the job because of their patter, as opposed to ability.

I saw a guy (let's call him Dave) applying for a higher job in his branch, the guy (let's call him Barry) that had the patter from another branch got the job. Then they wanted Dave to train Barry. So Dave got another job in a different company and he was perfect for the job. Obama Barry went on to achieve shit results before he finally quit.

Social Security is NOT PART OF THE FEDERAL BUDGET!

But they dump the revenues into the General Fund, and then spent it on everything but Social Security for decades; Eisenhower used it to build interstate highways, and the habit had continued. that's how the right can now disingenuously lie about it being broke n stuff.

One thing they can do is have companies who outsource their production to slave colonies like Red Chines factories and narco states like Mexico is tax those companies as if those jobs were still here paying the payroll taxes. And, they can strike down the Bush administration's scam of allowing illegal aliens to claim Social Security on their illegal earnings, and draw their checks in Mexico or where ever they move back to. Any number of ways to pay back the system what it is owed. It should be doubled, anyway, to account for real inflation. Same with robot labor.
