This is big news in Canada, the full report is going to be released. Every budget in Canada, especially in Ontario thanks to former Premier Mike Harris; has been sacrificed on the alter of increased police budgets and operation creep in our schools and workplaces. Our economy along with civil liberties is finished. Without question, our dignity was stolen long ago, this is but a microcosm of how Canadians view the most vulnerable.

Nursing Homes used to get funding and government accountability, not anymore. Since we don't have TRUE free market which demands accountability and transparency, we get people who haven't been bathed in weeks, some elderly left on the floor, cockroaches, abuse of the elderly and even a recommendation to the police due to neglect when one person passed. This is a federal problem most certainly, but most relevant and exposed in Ontario.

And this was only a look of 5 of the over 600 nursing homes in Ontario! Always abusing the weakest among us...

The Canadian military has drawn the curtain back on horrific allegations of elder abuse in five Ontario long-term care homes, with reports of residents being bullied, drugged and left for hours and days in soiled bedding.

Soldiers were called into the facilities as part of an effort to backstop the provincial system, which has been overwhelmed by novel coronavirus cases.

What they found has been recorded in assessments of each of the homes — in Pickering, Scarborough, Etobicoke, North York and Brampton — and presented in a report to the Ontario government.

"It's gut-wrenching," said a grim-faced Premier Doug Ford today. "Reading this report is the hardest thing I have done as premier."

One of the assessments — of the Orchard Villa in Pickering — said one resident was fed while lying down. The senior choked and could not be revived and the care "appeared to have contributed to the patient's death," said the report.

'Cockroaches and flies present'
In another incident, a senior fractured a hip and no care was provided, the report said.

"Cockroaches and flies present," one assessment said. "Rotten food smell noted in the hallway outside. CAF members found multiple old food trays stacked inside the bed table."

In another facility, soldiers reported "witnessing aggressive behaviour" by staff that prompted an investigation by the home.

"Respecting the dignity of patients is not always a priority," the report noted.

In his daily media briefing today, the prime minister said he was aware of the assessments and was saddened, shocked, disappointed and angered by what he'd heard.

"It is deeply disturbing," Trudeau said.

The allegations were first reported in an online story Tuesday morning by Global News.

'We found no rules'
Two military sources — who spoke to CBC News under the condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to speak publicly about the mission — told CBC's Vassy Kapelos that military members deployed to the facilities found instances of severe neglect.
