I'm not convinced it wasn't a well-choreographed set up. Smith walked across the stage--what did Chris Rock think he was going to do? Smith also really telegraphed that open-handed bitch slap and Chris Rock reacted as if he was in a wild west barroom brawl. Just seemed too pat. Also, I didn't see any law enforcement response, after all, Smith did commit assault and battery.

At first I thought the same thing...but Denzel grabbed Smith and was talking to him afterwards...and Denzel would NOT get involed in such a stunt unless it was real.

I agree that it is a bad example, but it's everywhere...
It's the thug lifestyle that has been promoted for the last 30 yrs... Has a lot to do with certain genres of Music in my guestimation...

It's the culture war that we Americans have lost.
