In Flanders Fields
By: Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD (1872-1918)
Canadian Army

In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

The Blue And The Gray
Francis Miles Finch (1827-1907)

By the flow of the inland river,
Whence the fleets of iron have fled,
Where the blades of the grave-grass quiver,
Asleep are the ranks of the dead:
Under the sod and the dew,
Waiting the judgment-day;
Under the one, the Blue,
Under the other, the Gray

These in the robings of glory,
Those in the gloom of defeat,
All with the battle-blood gory,
In the dusk of eternity meet:
Under the sod and the dew,
Waiting the judgement-day
Under the laurel, the Blue,
Under the willow, the Gray.

From the silence of sorrowful hours
The desolate mourners go,
Lovingly laden with flowers
Alike for the friend and the foe;
Under the sod and the dew,
Waiting the judgement-day;
Under the roses, the Blue,
Under the lilies, the Gray.

So with an equal splendor,
The morning sun-rays fall,
With a touch impartially tender,
On the blossoms blooming for all:
Under the sod and the dew,
Waiting the judgment-day;
Broidered with gold, the Blue,
Mellowed with gold, the Gray.

So, when the summer calleth,
On forest and field of grain,
With an equal murmur falleth
The cooling drip of the rain:
Under the sod and the dew,
Waiting the judgment -day,
Wet with the rain, the Blue
Wet with the rain, the Gray.

Sadly, but not with upbraiding,
The generous deed was done,
In the storm of the years that are fading
No braver battle was won:
Under the sod and the dew,
Waiting the judgment-day;
Under the blossoms, the Blue,
Under the garlands, the Gray

No more shall the war cry sever,
Or the winding rivers be red;
They banish our anger forever
When they laurel the graves of our dead!
Under the sod and the dew,
Waiting the judgment-day,
Love and tears for the Blue,
Tears and love for the Gray.

Just look at the cabbaged face kimche fuck head, Killer Kim the dim sum of all North Koreans.

Then thank your lucky stars and those who fought and died so we do not have to live in that sort of stinking, running egomaniciarrhea.

We are free, we are fucking free, and that has been a rare thing in history.

Thank you, every last one of you, from Marathon to present day Afghanistan who fought or died to make freedom possible.

Thank you.

The freedom that we enjoy is continuously defended and paid for with the lives of heroes. I respect and honor them year 'round. Memorial Day is special in that it is set aside for them and encourages respect and honor from those young ones that may yet have absolutely no idea what it all means.

Thanks to everyone who is serving or has ever served in defense of the United States of America and the freedoms I enjoy.

Also, Im banking on the fact that people are going to buy large electronics on credit at the store I work at. Seriously, whats freedom without a 55 inch Samsung LED TV or a new MacBook Pro.

My Fave:

IT IS THE SOLDIER

It is the Soldier, not the minister
Who has given us freedom of religion.

It is the Soldier, not the reporter
Who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the Soldier, not the poet
Who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the Soldier, not the campus organizer
Who has given us freedom to protest.

It is the Soldier, not the lawyer
Who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It is the Soldier, not the politician
Who has given us the right to vote.

It is the Soldier who salutes the flag,
Who serves beneath the flag,
And whose coffin is draped by the flag,
Who allows the protester to burn the flag.

I thank you for your heart for service to our country. For having the courage to volunteer to put your lives on the line to defend America's freedoms, knowing that most of us will never know you personally. But we do know, and honor your service. Please know that your sacrifice and the sacrifice of your family does not go unappreciated.

I can only offer you my prayers and my full support, which you have today and always. I pray for you daily, that you will be kept safe and will return to your families unharmed. I pray for your families daily, that their hearts will be strenghtened and that they will know peace until your return.

You are a very unique group of people, set apart by your courage. You and your families deserve the respect and gratitude of every American citizen.

Ladies and gentlemen, you are my heroes, and I carry you in my heart every day! Thank you!

FREEDOM ISN'T FREE

I watched the flag pass by one day. It fluttered in the breeze.
A young Marine saluted it, and then he stood at ease.
I looked at him in uniform -- so young, so tall, so proud,
With hair cut square and eyes alert, he'd stand out in any crowd.
I thought how many men like him had fallen through the years.
How many died on foreign soil? How many mothers' tears?
How many pilots' planes shot down? How many died at sea?
How many foxholes were soldiers' graves? No, freedom isn't free.

I heard the sound of taps one night, when everything was still.
I listened to the bugler play and felt a sudden chill.
I wondered just how many times that taps had meant "Amen,"
When a flag had draped a coffin of a brother or a friend.
I thought of all the children, of the mothers and the wives,
Of fathers, sons and husbands with interrupted lives.
I thought about a graveyard at the bottom of the sea
Of unmarked graves in Arlington. No, freedom isn't free.
