Goodbye. I’ve been thinking about the time I spend here. For a while, the debates and discussions were entertaining. Yet, lately, I have been losing interest. People, for the most part, have made up their minds and merely like to see that their messages are read. This may include me. Debates are never truly won or lost as people continue to hold tightly to their biases.
Nothing really changes one way or the other.

---------

I have considered different issues from different perspectives. I have “put my feet into other people’s shoes” and continue with the conclusion that I am a moderate. At the same time, I don’t know why I am telling this to you. Whether you agree with me or not, I will remain true to myself. Unless I find something that I have never considered before, I think that I will remain a moderate. For example:

At the very least, I think that civil unions should be established for gay couples. I even think that under special circumstances, gays should be allowed to adopt. Yet, I don’t think that gay couples should have a child through artificial insemination or a surrogate mother.

I think that people should be allowed to take Marijuana but not Cocaine.

I think that prison life should be a much more difficult life. Benefits such as television and elective surgery should not be allowed. Yet I am against the death penalty.

I think that there should be government welfare yet I do not think that everyone should be required to put everything into a pot and have the wealth distributed evenly to everyone. In other words, I oppose total lazie-faire capitalism but I also oppose complete socialism.
---------

In leaving, my wish would be that we be civil. May we agree to disagree without being disagreeable. Try to find something good in every human being.

For this time of year, to the Christians, I say “Merry Christmas”. Happy Kwanzaa. To Jews, I say, “Happy Hanukkah”. To other people, I say “Season’s Greetings” or "Blessed Solstice". To Muslims, I say, "Salaam". Please forgive my ignorance of the religious terms, customs, and traditions of other people. To make it simple:
May whatever you believe in give you peace.

Good-bye.

Matt - you are wrong politically and socially, but I've always respected you and your arguments...did I mention they were wrong? :)

sorry to see you go. But i certainly understand. if i had any sort of life i probably wouldnt be on here as much myself. but i dont and debating politics is entertaining. Besides, im not here to change anyones mind. just to air my point of view. if you change your mind because of me, great. If not, well you have your own brain. I certainly think im right or I wouldnt hold my opinion. but everyone doesnt know what i know and I dont know what others know.

Condescending.

There should be civil unions, a marriage is nothing but a contract in the laws eyes. If someone can get married by elvis just because they are of opposite sex, then what is legal marriage?

As to the child, not sure, some hetros should not have children.

I

Absolutely. Though, I know someone who believes that marijuana is so medical, they take it like "medicine." Daily. Stupid.

I think that prison life should be a much more difficult life. Benefits such as television and elective surgery should not be allowed. Yet I am against the death penalty.

I thought this too, until I worked for a guy who does post conviction law. Some are innocent, and some are guilty as hell, but, made a big mistake. Never under estimate anger/jealousy. Most should rot in there, there are those with perfect records who made one bad mistake because they caught some asshole with his wife or rear ended his car twice and because the fool who rear ended got out to finish "it" and then in the fight he started, got stabbed, the person who was rear ended twice is doing life with.

Ok.

I don't believe the above make one a moderate or non republican. There is no true platform, that is why there are degrees of "leanings."

IMHO
