The phrase "Man's inhumanity to man" is first documented in the Robert Burns poem called Man was made to mourn: A Dirge in 1784. It is possible that Burns reworded a similar quote from Samuel von Pufendorf who in 1673 wrote, "More inhumanity has been done by man himself than any other of nature's causes."

To take this a step further and let us consider what political systems in this world are more apt to be inhumane or have been inhumane in the past in order to not only enlighten ourselves but to protect ourselves now and in the future.

Now for many this is a no brainer....but unfortunately there are some who have not a clue....having grown up in America and never really being exposed to how cruel, oppressive and murderous political regimes can be and have been.

Now when you go down this list you will note the most common thing in regards to inhumane regimes is that they are invariably totolitarian.

Now most understand what a Totolitarian government is....aka one that has absolute power.

Yet there is much to be studied and much to be learned about this phenomenon and it is most relevant in today's America...when it appears to many knowledgable people we are veering in that direction.

Well, I gotta work, but interesting thread. I was going to post on the Phil "here cow" Robertson thread that the anti-gay bigots, and really all American bigotry movements, are based on ignorance and sloth, and rely upon Scripture to justify fear that is irrational.

They lack a certain hostility. That's in contrast to ethnic cleansing, mass rape, genocide, and the like. So, when you deal with people who are sympathetic to the beastiality nonsense, you have to bear in mind the person is not really an inhuman hater of humanity.

Well, you lost me there somewhere....but as you say you are in a hurry.....anyhow....my intention is to put totolitarian regimes under the microscope....to understand their nature, how they arise and especially is America headed in that direction?

I think the first thing that needs to be understood is that Communism, socialism, fascism are all left wing. Thus the reason many think that our current crop of liberals/socialists/leftwingers are a dangerous group aka....willing to sacrifice our freedoms in order to secure their agenda...whether it be obamacare, minority power(a rule of the majority by a minority) etc. and so on and so forth.

America has a long tradition of freedom and many have become apathetic about it....assuming arrogantly that America will always be America...the home of the free etc. but for the first time in my life some are coming to understand that the America we all knew and loved is coming unraveled....where are we headed?...are those of us concerned merely alarmists? Could totolatarianism really emerge in America?

Let us look at China.

China the People's Republic, by taking the Great Leap Forward in 1958 followed by the Cultural Revolution beginning in 1966 and ending with Mao Zedong's death in 1976, expunged much of what remained of a culture that had survived for more than three thousand years"......Hannah Arendt

Three thousand years of culture erased very quickly by the Communists. That demonstrates the power of a totolitarian government.

Now America has a very short history and many say very little culture...and now since the ideology of diversity has been adopted(did anyone ever notice a vote on that)what culture and or unity we had has been negated for the most part.

Some say we are one crisis away from a Federal Takeover...aka 'martial law'...probably the most likely way we will lose our freedoms.

Now Obama just the other day said he worried more about a nuke being set off in NYC than he was about Russian encroachment in the Ukraine area.

Can anyone imagine the scenario...if some terrorist group was able to set off even a small nuclear device in one of our major cities...even just a low tech dirty bomb that would spread radiation around a huge area.

Look at the effect just crashing some airliners into a skyscraper had...how it affected this country and our economy....we probably came very close to having martial law declared at that point.

But what would Martial Law mean....how would it affect our lives...would it be temporary or once a group obtains absolute power in America...would they be inclined to keep it?

I agree with nearly all of your post. The world see's phases of big powerful people making the weak minded follow them. A couple phases that started these movements were Christianity and taking down Hitler.

"Jesus Christ said sell everything you have, give it to the poor and follow me." are you ready to do that?

I think you need to expound a bit on what your point is....irregardless--Jesus was talking to a Rich Man...he did not mean that everyone should do that.

We are witness to an ever increasing virulent attack on Christianity around the World and even here in America....now when you consider that the nature of most totolitarian regimes has been anti-Christian....then the handwriting on the wall is becoming evident....we got troubles coming.

To Hell with Christiantology. Republicans don't have any right to bitch about a totalitarian US government because Republicans cheered for the USAPATRIOT Act and still support the drug war.

Why did the GOP say that the USAPATRIOT Act and NSA domestic spying programs were necessary to prevent another 9/11 if the USAPATRIOT Act is just more big government Obama Marxist Sharia Fascism?

40+ something times the GOP has voted to repeal Obamacare. How many times has the GOP voted to repeal the USAPATRIOT Act?

Interesting you dare go on record in support of Obamacare....that says a lot about you.

Irregardless......tell me what part of 'The Patriot Act' you disagree with....here is what it does...just in case you have no idea what it does and are just parroting the liberal position>>>>
HowStuffWorks "How the Patriot Act Works"

What did I say to support Obamacare? What words did you read that led you to that conclusion?

"HowStuffWorks". What does the 4th Amendment to the US Constitution say? It says, "The government needs a warrant." Edward Snowden revealed that the US government doesn't obey the US Constitution anymore. So how does the 4th Amendment work? Find a page for that.

Listen Chump(now do not feel to bad--most liberals do not understand this).....National Security Trumps The Constitution.

Hey bub. What's the body count and concentration camp population under the Patriot Act?

The body count under Bush? I'm not exactly sure. Does anyone have the correct numbers? Tens of thousands, at least.

The body count as a direct result of the USAPATRIOT Act is probably zero. However, the cost to American liberty is serious enough on its own.

All the morons who mistakenly believe the Constitution is written in stone like the Ten Commandments and is the guarantor* of our freedoms are living in a state of ignorance.

Many however do understand that in times of War(yes we are at war)the President must have the power to conduct that war in a way that prededicates the greatest chance for victory...now past presidents have violated the constitution in order to enhance National Security...aka Abe Lincoln....https://www.google.com/url?q=http:/...ds-cse&usg=AFQjCNHvOLq2iswIPIKTlenb4f1Y2a48Eg

So it is nothing new....just common sense....The President's first obligation is to protect and preserve the American People....just the other day Obama said he worried more about a nuclear bomb being detonated in NYC than anything else...do you not undersand if such a plot was discovered that the President would not hesitate to violate any and everyone's civil liberties if required to foil the plot. Dude you and the rest of the foolish liberals need to get real.

Now..also...and since I always follow the truth..........there admittedly is great danger in the Presidency have such powers...but the truth is he has them.

That is why it is so vital to have a President that is truely American to the core and beyond suspicion...that is the main reason for the requirement that a President be born in America etc. and the whole reason behind the recent controversy regarding the origins of the most mysterious and secretive President in our history.

HowStuffWorks "How Executive Orders Work"

I have to laugh at all those people who really believe the Constitution is the great gurantor of their rights...that it is inviolable, set in stone...and insures our freedoms.

The Presidency aka the 'The Executive Branch' can overide the constitution and has many times in the past.

Thank you for confirming that you are moral relativistic moron.

The Patriot Act is no where near the equivalent of Stalin, Mao, and Hitler exterminating millions of their subjects.
