Voting for Libertarian, Green, or independent candidates will not mean “throwing your vote away.”

On Monday, the state's Supreme Judicial Court upheld the use of ranked-choice voting for its presidential and congressional races, resisting efforts by the state's Republican Party to force a stop to its use.

In ranked-choice voting, citizens aren't asked to just choose a single candidate. They are permitted to rank the candidates from most to least favorite. In order to win a ranked-choice vote, a candidate is required to earn a majority of the votes (more than 50 percent), not just a plurality. In the event no candidate gets a majority of the votes, the candidate with the fewest votes is tossed out of the running. Then the votes are tallied again, but for voters whose favorite was just tossed out, their second choice now counts as their vote. This continues until one candidate has earned at least 50 percent of the votes.

This is some all-too-rare good news on the political front. Hopefully other states will follow.

This is a new Democrat initiative to put themselves in position to steal the election.

Nope. It's not. I've been working to promote this. There are many Republicans, Libertarians, etc.. involved in working to make elections better. In fact, we're getting a lot of push back from the Democratic establishment.

This was talked about last year.

Just when you thought Trump could win....they have 1000 ways to block that.

It has nothing to do with Trump. It won't steal an election. It just does away with the "lesser-of-two-evils" nonsense, which is a huge win, for everyone.

The system we had wasn't evil. Why change it?

Oh...right....so it favors the Left. Got it

You people are so morally bankrupt all your credibility has been withdrawn

What the election rigging fuck??
No rigging.
It's a standard voting method around The World.

Please don't be an ass. You KNOW this has not been used in the USA.

Of course, anything that helps them win will be just fine with you....no matter what.
This isn't what will help them steal the electors in Maine. State polls on the 25th in Maine had Biden up anywhere from 8 to 18 points.
Not sure would choose Ranked-Choice for my state, but it is a Maine thing and apparently legal, so more power to them.

It's pretty evil. It encourages people to vote for candidates they don't actually support. It doesn't serve us well.

That's not true, at all. You're just being petty and paranoid.

Have you taken the time to understand it yet?

Ranked voting could save states a lot of money. States that require a candidate to get a majority could use ranked voting without having to spend money on a runoff. It would also prevent voter disenfranchisement in primaries. If ranked voting had been used in the Republican primaries, Trump might not have gotten the nomination. If a voter voted early in 2016 and their candidate dropped out then their vote was tossed. Using ranked voting, they could go down the list until there is a candidate whose campaign is still active.

One man, ten votes....What could go wrong?
Either A) The folks that count the votes won't give a rats ass who the people desire to put into office, they will lie about who people prefer, and the duopoly will continue to rule.

or B) politicians will have to actually start representing the people instead of moneyed stake holders.
