While I'm against crisis government -- this current hostage-taking of the debt ceiling is the latest example -- I'll definitely give this crop of Republicans credit for appearing to finally be serious about spending. At least some of them.
I've been saying all along that all the Republicans have to do is cut spending first, THEN cut taxes. For a change. Show us where you would cut, and by how much. Then, if the American electorate chooses to keep you in office after those cuts, you win. It's pretty much that simple.
If you're really going to cut spending, you absolutely have to look at the military and entitlements. Cutting here and there around the edges will not be enough. So this will necessarily mean cuts in Social Security benefits (at some point), Medicare, Medicaid, etc.
So, you've gone this far. Now, those legislators who are pushing this need to get specific. Show us the numbers, the cuts, the timeline. We need clarity. Maybe you'll come up with some good ideas. Maybe you'll get some Democrats to take notice.
Enough sloganeering and generalizations. Show us what you would do.
