MSM Glosses Over Irony of Global Warming Scientists Trapped in Antarctic Ice | NewsBusters

Somewhere far, far to the south where it is summer, a group of global warming scientists are trapped in the Antarctic ice. If you missed the irony of that situation, it is because much of the mainstream media has glossed over that rather inconvenient bit of hilarity. ...

The expedition is being led by Chris Turney, “climate scientist”, who has “set up a carbon refining company called Carbonscape which has developed technology to fix carbon from the atmosphere and make a host of green bi-products, helping reduce greenhouse gas levels.” The purpose of the expedition is “to discover and communicate the environmental changes taking place in the south.”

It seems they found out what the “environmental changes taking place in the south.” are.

Finally, National Geographic bluntly states the mission purpose:

...The current crop of explorers are hoping to document some of the same data and compare them to Mawson's numbers, "using the twist of modern technology," Turney told National Geographic earlier this month.

As may be expected, global warming might play a role in this, he suggests, particularly with respect to melted ice in the East Antarctic.

So some global warming scientists in Antarctica in the summer time get trapped in ice while trying to prove global warming.....roflmao

Yeah, if only the earth would cooperate with the global warming alarmists.

Funny thing, the planet just isn't susceptible to the lies and bad science the left perpetrates on the public and instead does what it has always done.

That being, whatever it wants to do despite mankind's presence.

Antarctic crew build ice helipad to help rescuers | Mail Online

Global warming scientists forced to admit defeat... because of too much ice: Stranded Antarctic ship's crew will be rescued by helicopter

They went in search evidence of the world’s melting ice caps, but instead a team of climate scientists have been forced to abandon their mission … because the Antarctic ice is thicker than usual at this time of year.

The scientists have been stuck aboard the stricken MV Akademik Schokalskiy since Christmas Day, with repeated sea rescue attempts being abandoned as icebreaking ships failed to reach them.

Now that effort has been ditched, with experts admitting the ice is just too thick. Instead the crew have built an icy helipad, with plans afoot to rescue the 74-strong team by helicopter.

The expedition is being lead by Chris Turney, a climate scientist, who was hoping to reach the base camp of Douglas Mawson, one of the most famous Antarctic explorers, and repeat observations done by him in 1912 to see what impact climate change had made.

It is thought that the group, which includes scientific researchers and a journalist, will now be able to escape by air after two sea rescues failed.

Australian icebreaker Aurora Australis was unable to reach them because it was not strong enough to break through.

A top-of-the-range Chinese icebreaker, the Snow Dragon ('Xue Long'), was deployed earlier in the week, and hoped to reach the ship by saturday.

However just after midnight on Friday it too got stuck just six nautical miles from the ship.

The Academic Shokalskiy set off from New Zealand on November 28 to recreate a 100-year-old Australasia expedition first sailed by Sir Douglas Mawson to see how the journey changes using new technology and equipment.

But on Wednesday morning, the boat hit a mass of thick ice sheets and today remains at a stand still.

Chris Turney, an Australian professor who helped organise the voyage on the Russian ship, yesterday posted a photograph on Twitter apparently showing the Chinese vessel, a speck on the horizon beyond an expanse of ice.

I really don't even pretend to know why the earth is warming - It's beyond my scope of understanding, but it is abundantly obvious that the earth is warming.

Climate change: Size of Arctic ice caps increases

After last year's record low ice cover in the Arctic, the size of the northern ice caps appears to have increased this year.

The Mail on Sunday cites a leaked report to the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) which says there was 60 per cent more Arctic sea ice this August than at the same time last year. The minimum reading for the year normally comes in September.

Arctic sea ice partially melts each summer, returning in the winter. But the summer retreat has been increasing over the 35 years that scientists have measured it precisely from space, with a record summer minimum recorded in September 2007 and again in 2012. Last summer it was as low as 3.41 million square kilometers.

The six lowest levels have all occurred in the past six years, from 2007 to 2012.

The IPCC is due to report on the situation in October ahead of the release of its Fifth Assessment Report - a three-volume study released every six or seven years.

Computer models have in the past suggested that the Arctic could see iceless summers by the end of the 21st century, but more recent studies suggest that could occur as early as 2035.

According to the draft report, the IPCC says it is now “95 per cent confident” global warming is man-made.

You do know that the Daily Mail, England's Fox News, has retracted that false 60% claim.

Mail On Sunday subsequently corrected their article, including a headline change to "And now it's global COOLING! Return of the Arctic ice cap as it grows by 29% in a year" (down from 60 percent). However, even disregarding the statistical error, Rose's argument was misleading: 2012 was a record-breaking year for Arctic sea ice lows, and an increase from such an anomaly was to be expected. Nevertheless, the August 2013 sea ice extent was the sixth lowest for that month on record -- a point that Rose neglected to mention.

U.S. Media Repeated Rose's Inaccurate Arctic Ice Claim At Least 38 Times. The false claim that Arctic sea ice had increased 60 percent was picked up by U.S. news outlets at least 38 times, including 22 instances after the correction, by 36 news outlets. These mentions primarily came from conservative media, and also includes several state outlets that published the same inaccurate column -- one op-ed written by Cal Thomas (nationally syndicated columnist and Fox News contributor) appeared in 10 different news outlets, and another written by Robert L. Bradley Jr. (CEO of the fossil fuel-funded Institute for Energy Research) appeared in three. Several of the reports repeated Rose's absurd suggestion of a long-term decline of Arctic sea ice showing that the planet is "cooling." Not included in our count were at least six letters to the editor that were published using his false statistic, five of which were published after the correction. Rose's False Number Repeated By U.S. Congressmen During Hearing. The inaccurate 60 percent Arctic increase figure was also used by two U.S. congressmen to cast doubt on climate change and argue against addressing it. In a September 18 House Energy and Power Subcommittee hearing (a hearing dubbed by Organizing for Action as "DenierPalooza"), Congressman Ed Whitfield (R-KY) stated, "I recently read an article that stated that the Arctic ice had nearly a million more square miles of ocean covered with ice than at this time of year," and Congressman David McKinley (R-WV) asserted that "Arctic ice has actually grown 60 percent."

There is almost always a recovery after a RECORD low ice cover, the trend is still down. The Right sees only the recoveries and ignore all the losses.

Given the screamingly loud nothing on tv news about this irony, I can only assume news directors have informed their employees not to mention it. Such an obvious thing to mention in coverage about it, that they haven't is really only calling undo attention to it.
