An interesting article from the Brookings Institute that includes this:
First, according to the PRRI poll, libertarians represent only 12% of the Republican Party. This number is consistent with the findings of other studies by the Pew Research Center and the American National Election Study. This libertarian constituency is dwarfed by other key Republican groups, including white evangelicals (37%) and those who identify with the Tea Party (20%).

Is the GOP going to be so split that they will cede elections to Dems?

The Dems proclaim that the current Civil War is good for them. As the GOP Status Quo and the TEA Party hammer it out. One side wanting the Career politicians out, who will not stand their ground on Conservative Principles and the other saying they know how to gain the power via their normal tactics.

Already, the TEA Party has taken down strong Rino's. The TEA party is going to take down more of them. The Status Quo RINO's know this. As do their Corp backers/masters.............

The TEA party has very often showed the message, 2 parties same result. The TEA Party is pushing to change the GOP back to it's Conservative Roots. Which also ties into the Constitutional principle's of the Founding Fathers................Thus the Libertarian's would support those pushing a smaller Gov't. Not so much so for the Status Quo. While the TEA Party doesn't fully represent the Libertarian Party on principles, it has a LOT in common with the Libertarians.

In primaries, the Libertarians would be more likely to side with the TEA Party. So the RINO'S have a fight on their hands.................A fight that could damage the outcome of the next election as the internal fight might aid the Dems...................Or it may actually get out voters who stay at home because they see no point in voting anymore.............

2 sides and 2 different opinions........2 strategies.............

I side with the TEA Party. I want as many career politicians, who are RINO'S OUT........They no longer serve Conservative Values as I see them. They are in bed with those with the money selling their SOULS in the process. Many in this country feel the same about this on both sides of the equation.

The Dems have already helped throw out the Blue Dogs in their little Civil War. Out of the 54 Blue Dogs only about 14 are left in office. Most thrown to the wolves by the Dems for not toeing the line on Obamacare. Most seats fed to the GOP in elections.

Only time will tell who's right and who's wrong. It will be another fight, more RINO'S will be sent packing. It is still an unknown whether this will cause Dems to gain more seats or not.

But the Status Quo in Washington needs to be gone. They created this mess and it is UNREASONABLE to expect them to clean it up.

IT'S TIME FOR CHANGE............NOT Change you can Believe in BS.............BUT INCUMBENTS getting thrown out on both sides of the equation until those remaining will get the message that the people are tired of their shit.

Libertarians and the TeaTards will ensure the Republicans don't win a national election for a generation

eagle### you voiced my thoughts perfectly.

Obamacare is going to have a huge impact on incumbent Dems - they're already doing everything they can to run away from it.

However, what I think is going to happen is that, instead of so-called "safe seats" as in the past, incumbent Dems will be facing Dem opponents who claim to be against Obamacare and are more conservative.

With all the GOP infighting, it may turn out that, in spite of RINO Karl Rove's analysis, there will be changes in the Senate as RINOS lose their primaries to those closer to the middle. It may also mean that Dingy Harry might retain his position as Majority Leader. [He's safe until 2016]

As to the House - I strongly feel the GOP will maintain, if not increase, it's majority.

I agree that the Dems will take a beating because of Obamacare. There are many Americans who will vote to throw out those who voted for it.

That damage will be done irregardless of the money machine trying to buy the votes. The Dems would be wise to offer up new candidates to sacrifice those incumbents who will get shellacked for Obamacare...........

Win Win to me..........As many incumbents gone as possible.

We need term limits. Hopefully this will happen on a grand scale.

I do believe the Civil War will have an effect on the Senate. I expect the outcome to be almost a tie in the Senate. As the PROPOGANDA MACHINE will attempt to stop the TEA Party.

The Status Quo on both sides are threatened by the TEA Party. Which is a good thing.

The next national election is eons away in political time. Much like picking the winner of the 2014 Super Bowl and not knowing what injury(s) each team might encounter - predicting how a future election will go is nearly impossible.

And the 2014 elections are NOT "That far away." I'm willing to bet that we'll be seeing a huge increase in election campaigns in January - certainly in February.

The 3rd party nuts in the right wing are the reason why Obama won twice, many of them stayed home during the elections since they didn't like McCain or Romney.

Guess what.....McCain and Romney are far better than Obama.

Now we see their same bullshit again talking about running against "the establishment" because the GOP couldn't defund obamacare with just the HoR and the GOP didn't shutdown the GOV again this coming month.

Pure fucking idiots that believe politicians must vote 100% on their views to be supported, while they end up supporting the enemy by not voting or even voting for some off the wall kook libertarian that can't win a city board election nevermind a state/national election.

A meaningless observation. Are most libertarians members of the Republican Party? I doubt it, and what about those who are libertarian-leaning on many important issues such as foreign policy or civil liberties? Are they likely Republicans? Probably not.

Blaming others because you nominated unelectable losers.

Real Libertarians have the same agenda as the Tea Party. There is no way in the world that a Libertarian can win a presidential election so old time libertarians have done the right thing and joined the Tea Party which puts pressure on the Republican party to run conservative candidates. The problem is that the Libertarian movement has been taken over for the most part by the pot heads, druggies, dirty tricks democrats and no government tin foil hats.

That horse is out of the barn already. The Democrats are monolithic, the only way to oppose them is support the Republicans, and the Republicans as you pointed out are too split to effectively agree on anything.

Third parties only work when no one party has control of a majority. The Democrats being a majority and having zero diversity of thought are no longer beatable whether the rest of us join together or not.

The surest sign of somebody who knows nothing about libertarians is when they start talking about "real libertarians." Libertarians have nowhere near the same agenda as the Tea Party, as libertarians are opposed to the aggression inherent in the state not simply that of the Obama administration.

“When you see that trading is done, not by consent, but by compulsion—when you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing—when you see money flowing to those who deal, not in goods, but in favors—when you see that men get richer by graft and pull than by work, and your laws don’t protect you against them, but protect them against you—when you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice—you may know that your society is doomed.” – Ayn Rand

Both McCain and Romney were the best candidates Republicans had......neither had a chance against Obama

The Tea Party insured that the GOP took the House so they could become the majority creating one half of a handcuff for the president's ambitions. Soon it will be the Senate and the handcuff will be completed...

I'm not surprised you think so.

The true Scotsman fallacy, eh Kevin?

The tea party does want to cut taxes and spending, so there is an overlap. But your point on the difference is perfectly stated. The tea party wants the same government, just less of it. Libertarians are far more radical than that.

Uh....they won the GOP vote through the state primaries, people like you are clueless acting like your clown that came in 3rd to last could somehow beat Obama when he can't even win the normal GOP voter.

Running some so-called "right winger" that is pro-drugs, pro-abortion, anti-military, etc will never win the GOP primaries. Never. You believe just because you losertarians believe in less GOV and low taxes that will win over the GOP voters that don't like your kook views.

Pretty much you losertarians are liberals that don't like Big Brother.
