Coming hard on the heels of Bill Clinton's whoppers during a temper tantrum on Fox News last week, more and more prominent Democrats and other leftists have been descending into hysteria as they try to persuade a nonlistening public that there are reasons to pay attention to them.

Separate articles aren't really merited, since all the blatherings are rooted in the same lack of reality. Here's a compendium of today's back-page headlines.

Albert "Owl" Gore, after failing to persuade anyone that his fanatical pronouncements of imminent doom from supposed "global warming" had any merit, is still rigidly banging the same drum. His attempts to blame car exhaust, factory smokestacks, and even cow farts for global warming having gone nowhere, his latest attempt to find a culprit is: global warming is now caused by cigarette smoking.

He hasn't yet blamed gas-powered weedeaters, swimming-pool chlorine, drying Elmer's Glue, or excessive on-stage campaign kissing for the global warming he is convinced exists. But he seems to have endless amounts of time. Can they be far behind?

GORE: CIGARETTE SMOKING 'SIGNIFICANT' CONTRIBUTOR TO GLOBAL WARMING

Fri Sep 29 2006 09:04:05 ET

Former U.S. Vice President Al Gore warned hundreds of U.N. diplomats and staff on Thursday evening about the perils of climate change, claiming: Cigarette smoking is a "significant contributor to global warming!"

Gore, who was introduced by Secretary-General Kofi Annan, said the world faces a "full-scale climate emergency that threatens the future of civilization on earth."

Hillary Clinton, trying to shrug off the failures of her husband's administration and her contributions to them, made near-hysterical pronouncements about terrible damage done to our country. Her solution, unsurprisingly, is simply to elect the same Democrats under whom the economy faltered and terrorism took root. She was careful not to take questions or elaborate further. But she still thinks she should be elected President.

Sen. Clinton: 'Incalculable Damage Done to Our Country'
By Randy Hall
September 29, 2006

(CNSNews.com) - The upcoming mid-term election is important because the U.S. is "in a deep hole, and Republicans don't want to quit digging," Sen. Hillary Clinton told a gathering of Democratic women in Washington, D.C., on Thursday.

"The damage that has already been done to our country in the last six years is incalculable," she said.

Jimmy Carter, arguably the worst foreign-policy President in US history, announced for the umpteenth time that Bush is doing foreign policy all wrong. He's trying hard to find someone to believe that Bush's policies, rather than misguided pronouncements from head-in-the-sand failures such as himself and the anti-Bush left, are responsible for divisions in our nation.

Ex-Prez Carter: Bush has brought U.S. "international disgrace"

RENO, Nev. Former President Carter is urging northern Nevadans to elect his son, Jack, to the Senate to help combat a Bush administration he says has brought "international disgrace" to the country.

The former president told a crowd of about 300 on the campus of the University of Nevada, Reno today that the nation is more sharply divided that it has ever been as a result of Bush's policies.

The strain of making a rare movie that actually reflected the facts, has apparently proven too much for Oliver Stone, who has now completely gone off the deep end. Taking a page from the Dixie Chicks manual for ignorant anti-American criticism, he announced that he was ashamed, not just for Texas, but for the entire United States. He then went on to proclaim the world had been destroyed. He was duly ignored by an entire world full of people who don't seem to have noticed their planet's disintegration.

Stone: Bush has set U.S. back 10 years

by CIARAN GILES, Associated Press Writer

SAN SEBASTIAN, Spain - Filmmaker Oliver Stone blasted President Bush Thursday, saying he has "set America back 10 years." Stone added that he is "ashamed for my country".
"We have destroyed the world in the name of security."

Leftist George Soros, who made his money breaking the Bank of England, is claiming he'll get out of politics but somehow stay engaged in policy. He apparently hopes his listeners will believe there is some way to separate the two, and so go on supporting his nutty ideas. But in fact, there is no indication that he will stop giving millions to far-left Democrats, funding the extremist Sundance Film Festival, etc.

ANTI-W. $OROS: I QUIT POLITICS
By MAGGIE HABERMAN

September 29, 2006 -- Billionaire liberal financier George Soros, who spent millions of his fortune trying to oust President Bush in 2004, yesterday said he hopes to stay out of politics from now on.

"In the future, I'd very much like to get disengaged from politics," Soros said at a Council on Foreign Relations meeting on the Upper East Side. "I'm interested in policy and not in politics."
