Poll: Floridians Not Happy With Health Care Overhaul

TALLAHASSEE -- A new poll said many Floridians are not happy with the passage of a massive health care overhaul in Washington, and it’s Democrats who are suffering as a result.

According to the poll, conducted by Mason-Dixon, only 34 percent of Florida residents supported the bill passed by Congress and signed by President Barack Obama.

Of the Floridians surveyed, 54 percent said they opposed the bill, while 12 percent were undecided.

"I know Alan's district. The 8th District of Florida is not a walk in the park. This is a competitive district - one that the Republicans are very upset that they lost. They are going to go after it, and they are going to go after it hard. Alan Grayson is going to need your help. He's going to need you to help him at the grassroots level by going out and volunteering for his campaign. And, he's going to need you... go to CongressmanWithGuts.com and make a contribution to Alan Grayson's re-election campaign. We're in the fight of our lives." - Debbie Wasserman Schultz

Florida is a retiree state.
They love blank check health care where 74% of all dollars spent treats chronic diseases.
Try to change that and they will squeal.
Georgia is against it big time but we are GOP hard core so it would not matter anyway.

what blank check do you speak of? you trying to say that the seniors living in Florida put zero money into these programs for their entire working lives?? They paid for the system you fucktards are robbing.

It'd be awesome if we could unload all these selfish old farts. It cracks me up that they rail against socialized medicine as they whip out their medicare cards.

Hey, grumpy old people: move to Arizona!

Somehow, Ravi, you seem to be forgetting that these "selfish old farts" and "grumpy old people" who are on or about to go on Medicare have been paying insurance 'premiums' on their healthcare to the government Medicare since it went into effect in 1966.

The significance of that date and those premiums is that benefits WERE NOTAVAILABLE until reaching age 65. That was the contract, and FYI it is not free. We still pay our Medicare monthly charge, supplement insurance premium, and our Part D drug insurance premium.

If funding wasn't going to be adequate they had 44 years to make adjustments. By the time people retire and need it they have based their medical situation around the contract, that says "if you pay for something, you are entitled to the benefit promised"

(Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels’ comments)

As if governors these days don’t have enough on their plates. Now that ObamaCare has become law, there’s a whole new to-do list for my state:

1) Plan for the termination of our Healthy Indiana Plan. This is the program that’s currently providing health insurance to 50,000 low-income Hoosiers. With its health savings account-style personal accounts, it has been enormously popular among its participants. I hope those folks will do all right when they are pitched into Medicaid.

2) Start preparing voters for a state tax increase. The axe won’t fall until someone else is governor. But when we are forced to expand Medicaid to one in every four citizens, the cost will add several hundred million dollars to the budget.

3) Check to see if Indiana should drop its health insurance plans and dump its government workers into the exchanges. Paying the new tax penalty might actually be cheaper for the state, as it will be for many private firms. I’m not certain the same rule applies to government as to business, but since no member of Congress read this entire bill before the vote, I don’t feel embarrassed about not knowing.

4) Ramp up our job retraining programs to handle those who will be fired by our medical device companies, student loan providers, and small businesses as they wrestle with new taxes, penalties, or in the student loan case, outright nationalization of their business.

5) Call the state’s attorney general to see if we can join one of the lawsuits to overturn ObamaCare. Yes, it’s a long shot. But why not try?

6) Investigate an offset to all this extra cost. We may no longer need the Department of Insurance since insurers will now be operating as regulated utilities under the thumb of the federal government.

It’s discouraging that all of this could have been avoided. Congress could have done what Republicans should suggest now: Shift to a system that allows individuals—not businesses—to buy health insurance tax free.

They could also create tax credits for buying health insurance based on income and health status to guarantee everyone coverage and encourage medical care and insurance competition.

Republicans should push to lower barriers for buying insurance across state lines, create incentives for states to repeal mandates, and limit frivolous lawsuits that increase the price of insurance.

But for the moment, our federal overlords have ruled. We better start adjusting to our new status as good Europeans
