Let's return now to trying to properly understand why someone would vote for Brexit or Trump

A good place to start is with a new book called 'The Road to Somewhere: the Populist Revolt and the Future of Politics' by British intellectual David Goodhart.

Mr Goodhart is an interesting character. He founded, and for a number of years edited, the centre-left magazine 'Prospect'. He now describes himself as a "post-liberal". He has switched allegiances to those who prefer the local over the global.

I can only speak for myself. My vote for Trump was for the following reasons ONLY.

1. I can't stand PC. It dumbs us down, makes people fragile, dishonest and weak. Trump represents PC's polar opposite, and we needed it badly.

2. Liberal narratives are generally BS, costly and dangerous. They provide much the same results as above. Another four years of that BS and we're just about cooked.

3. Though he exaggerates the truth, Trump is often bluntly honest. Honesty is good. As for Clinton, she is Trump's polar opposite. If you study her, then you can tell when she lies, because her lips move.

4. Trump represents strength, even despite his own weaknesses.

5. We need to get a handle on immigration. Trump is just that guy. Sure you can declare prejudice, "freedom" and exclusionary, but at the end of the day that's all BS because we need to get a handle on immigration. The socialists prefer we open the gates for votes and a one-world order. I'll pass, that rubs the universe the wrong way and would destroy our nation, and any other nation that's worth a fuck.

6. His daughter and daughter in-law are fucking HOT dude. His wife is pretty hot too. Additionally, Trump is entertaining. Enjoy the ride.

It's really a simple answer to both questions, people were damned tired of crap being dumped on them by over reaching central governments.
