I have been saying that for years.

What has happened is that identity politics has replaced liberalism as the ideology of the left. Instead of an egalitarian liberal approach, it is based upon tribalism, which is the very most primitive form of human interaction. Beyond that, there is an implicit hierarchy of tribe, with unequal expectations for behavior afforded accordingly.

Probably the most glaring illustration of this is the way the left treats Islam. It is treated as an ethnic identity rather than as an ideology, and this despite it being the most mind numbingly regressive and repressive ideology imaginable. No actual liberal could possibly support it yet the left treats this abomination as if inviolate.
