"Potential 2024 presidential hopeful Gov. Kristi Noem defended South Dakota's record on the coronavirus, railing against lockdowns in a speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference on Saturday.

In her lengthy address, Noem argued that government, not the pandemic, “crushed” the reeling U.S. economy."

I realize her kind of delusional blather scores well with the nutbars at CPAC, but the factual record matters to some of us. Though, admittedly, not those in attendance.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — The Sturgis Rally, an annual motorcycle rally in the Black Hills, was a coronavirus spreader and study of cases in Minnesota shows, a newly released report by the Centers for Disease Control says.

Repubs seemed to have a penchant for holding super spreader events while mocking COVID safety protocols. They are apparently oblivious to the idea such events were counter productive to their stated goal of re-opening the economy. Being in touch with reality not being their bailiwick.

I agree 100%, because of their lengthy lockdowns (which was no help to begin with) only added more troublesome to these blue states. I should know - I live in Michigan - one of those blue states. Governor Whitmer had "a party" with her excessive restriction power which hurt her state very badly. But she was "just following the science"...just like that flip-flopper Dr Fauci. :auiqs.jpg:

She's just using a little common-sense.

Common-sense -

  • Sound judgment not based on specialized knowledge.

  • Characterized by common or good sense: as, he took a common-sense view of the question. See common sense, under common, a.
1 the basic level of practical knowledge and judgment that we all need to help us live in a reasonable and safe way

Two delusional liars at the top of the ticket. How fitting.

South Dakota had one of the highest per capita mortality rate and exported outbreaks to nearby states despite being a largely rural and therefore much lower risk state.
So, what are you saying?

Government mitigation efforts and mandates have no affect?

Interesting. :eusa_think:

Another "study" that attempted to scare people into obeying the shutdowns blindly! The facts DO matter, Berg and unfortunately for you they don't back up your contention that Noem's decision not to shut down South Dakota's economy was the wrong one...just as Andrew Cuomo's and Gavin Newsome's decision to lock down New York and California didn't keep them from having high Covid numbers while it totally destroyed their economies. The Covid relief bill that liberals in Congress are now passing is in large part designed to keep those two States from going bankrupt...bankrupt because of decisions that their Governors made...decisions that destroyed both States economies.

I’m saying that we shouldn’t take lessons on a pandemic from one of the least densely populated states in the country whose decisions harmed other nearby states with higher population densities.

Great speech by a true common sense governor
Her kind of common sense unnecessarily added to the 500K+ death toll. If her "common sense" had been implemented from the time of the outbreak that number would be closer to 1M. The essential fallacy she is promoting is restrictions hurt the economy when in truth if the restrictions had not been in place the economy would be worse off.

Bullshit! If what you're claiming were really true then New York and California's Covid numbers would be much lower than South Dakota and Florida and they're not! Noem and De Santis got it right. Cuomo and Newsome got it wrong!

But.........wait...........do you understand what a super-spreader event is? Here's a hint. It's not good.
A Super-spreader event is a media invention.
It's only a way to interfere with GOP rallies while allowing Democrat supported rioting and looting to continue.
Example:
  • A Trump rally of 20,000 people held outdoors is a super-spreader event.
  • 2,000 rioters in Portland trying to burn down a federal building is "peaceful protests" and okay
  • 20,000 BLM protesters march down the street holding signs is the Summer of Love derp...derp...derp
  • 3,000 illegal immigrant children packed into cages under the Biden Administration is good stuff no problem
  • 100,000 bikers attending Sturgis are super-spreaders

COVID destroyed the economy
People like you destroyed the economy. You, Whitless, Newsome, Cuomo, and every other blue state governor.

Now you all look to the federal government to bail you out for your foolishness.

We all gave you the 2 weeks to flaten the curve because you said the hospitals couldnt keep up.

You turned that into a year and destroyed countless lives in the process.

Your leaders should be in prison

You want to talk about "super spreaders"? The truth is Cuomo's "lockdown" of New York spread the Covid virus far more than anything like Sturgis! The fact is that people leaving New York's draconian lockdowns and going to places that weren't locked down...like Florida...made New York the "super spreader"! Florida's numbers would have been much lower if not for the thousands of people who moved there to escape what Cuomo was doing.
