Killings of Christians by Islamists Doubled in 2013

According to Open Doors, a non-denominational group that supports persecuted Christians worldwide, the official number of Christians killed for their faith around the world doubled in 2013, compared to 2012. According to the annual survey, the number of Christians killed in Syria in 2013 comes to more than the whole global total of 2012. Approximately 13 percent of the Syrian population is made up of Christians.

In the list of nations with the highest number of killings of Christians, Syria was followed by Nigeria, Pakistan, and Egypt. In its 2014 World Watch List, Somalia comes in at the top of the list— moving from fifth to second place— followed by Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, the Maldives, Pakistan, Islamic Republic of Iran and Yemen.

The survey conducted by Open Doors only counts the numbers of Christian who are killed, reported in the media, and confirmed. Some estimates by other surveys indicate the number exceeds 10,000 deaths. Open Doors has reported that it documented 2,123 killings, compared to the 1,201 in 2012. In 2013, 1,213 of these people were killed in Syria alone. “This is a very minimal count based on what has been reported in the media and we can confirm,” said Frans Veerman, head of research for Open Doors.

The report revealed that “Islamist extremism is the worst persecutor of the worldwide church,” adding that in 36 countries on the report’s list, radical Muslims were the key source behind these persecutions and killings. Michel Varton, head of Open Doors France, told journalists in Strasbourg, “In Syria, another war is thriving in the shadow of the civil war – the war against the church.”

It seems that believing in one God, Muhammad, the Quran, and all Islamic and Sharia laws does not matter for the Islamists when it comes to gaining power. Although, their major argument is that they respect those who believe in Allah and Muslims, history has shown that during the last thousand years what truly matters for Islamists is power and rule.

On October 17, bombs killed 6 people and wounded 143 in Zamboanga, the Philippines. While press accounts mentioned in passing that the victims were Christians, few conveyed to the reader that these were people assaulted by Muslim extremists because of their religion. On September 25, militant Muslims shot dead 7 Christian Pakistanis execution style in Karachi. Most of the media failed to report this at all, though it was at least the fifth bloody attack on Christians in Pakistan in the last twelve months.

And the media almost never point out that Christians are being killed, often at places of worship, in several countries with Islamic majorities or governments, not because they are Westerners or Americans (many are neither) but because they are Christians. Nor is the White House or Congress nearly as attentive--to put it mildly--to this pattern of killing as it is to any injury on either side of the conflict in Israel.

People who follow international news are aware that a civil war raged in Ethiopia for more than 30 years. But few realize that it was a religious war--between Muslim Eritrea and Christian Ethiopia--in which tens of thousands perished. Many know that the people of East Timor were savaged, but it is rarely mentioned that most East Timorese are Christian, while the Indonesian militants who killed many of them and brutalized the refugees in West Timor are Muslim. Indeed, Christians in other parts of Indonesia have hardly fared better; for instance, Thousands died during riots in the Moluccan Islands in 2000.

The bloody war in the Sudan, similarly, pits the Muslim government in the North against the Christian and animist South. And in Nigeria, as Muslims try to impose a strict version of the legal code called sharia in several provinces, armed conflicts between Muslims and Christians have erupted and thousands have died. Just lately, in the Ivory Coast, Muslims in the North have been attacking Christians in the South. On a smaller scale but very much along the same lines, scores of Coptic Christians were killed in Egypt in January 2000; several churches were burned in Kenya the following year.

It seems somehow inflammatory to point to the religious element of these and many other conflicts. Nearly every day, meanwhile, some scholar assures us that Islam is a peaceable and loving religion. What is going on here?

Isn't this the same passage that some Protestants use as their argument against the Catholics, that the "whore of Babylon" is a metaphor for the Catholic Church?

Having read the book of Revelation several times, its so easy to let one's imagination run rampant and to correlate all sorts of the villains and calamities depicted in that book with figures and events from the present. Folks have been doing that for centuries it seems. As for me, I am skeptical of such claims. It seems to to me that we are only given one day at a time to live. To learn how to make the best use of that time in a way pleasing to God does not require any understanding of the Book of Revelation. That is just my philosophy, I am sure that many evangelicals would say its because my eyes have not been opened, that I have not accepted Jesus fully into my heart. But, I can honestly say that I have tried my best in that regard.

Catholics use replacement theology. The church of Rome has never been a big fan of the Jews, so they replace what they don't like with what they do like. For that reason I wouldn't recommend the Catholic Bible. Love my Catholic family and friends, but I prefer a less tampered with Bible.

The calamities, and villains are real. We know exactly who will be invading God's land and He will hook them in to be thwarted by God Himself. He has had enough. Israel's enemies are not hard to locate. Israel is surrounded by them. Russia will lead the charge.

Invite Him into your heart. And then be baptized and receive the Holy Spirit. He will quicken you and understanding will be the result. Study so you will recognize Christ's voice when you hear it. Report charting persecution of Christians worldwide reveals most abuse in Muslim countries

The majority of anti-Christian persecution in the world in 2013 took place at the hands of Muslims, according to a list by Open Doors USA.
The nondenominational group supporting persecuted Christians worldwide recently released its 2014 World Watch List, which describes and ranks anti-Christian persecution in a list of the 50 worst countries for 2013.

It reported increasing violence against Christians in Africa, and said radical Muslims were the main source of persecution in 36 countries on its list – both in Islamic countries and in non-Muslim countries such as Kenya (ranked 40th), Ethiopia (17th) and Tanzania (49th).

The top country where Christians suffer, for the 12th consecutive year, remains communist North Korea, though the nine following countries in the top ten are Islamic: Somalia, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, Maldives, Pakistan, Iran and Yemen.

Open Doors said earlier this month that it had documented 2,123 “martyr” killings over the year, compared with 1,201 in 2012. There were 1,213 such deaths in Syria alone last year, it said.

Christianity is the largest and most widely spread faith in the world, with 2.2 billion followers, or 32 percent of the world population, according to a survey by the US-based Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life.

Who in Libya would have a grievance against Christians? Well, last September, two Egyptian Christians were murdered in Libya after refusing to convert to Islam. And the country is full of “brigades of former rebels and Islamist militias in a country awash with weapons.” So the likelihood that these seven Christians were killed under similar circumstances, or for offending Islamic supremacists in some way (perhaps by their very existence) is very high.

Anyone who thinks that Islam is compatible with or comparable to Christianity, tell me how many Christians are setting fire to student's dorms and shooting or slitting the throats of the kids that tried to escape.

Islamic militants in Nigeria continued terrorizing civilians last week, setting fire to a locked boy’s dormitory and other buildings at the Federal Government College in Buni Yadi. Fifty-nine people died in the attack.

Although the school was not Christian, some of the victims have been identified as Christians, according to International Christian Concern (ICC). Emmanuel Ogebe, with the Justice for Jos Project, told ICC that the school was one of the few public, non-Islamic schools in the region.

“There is a high likelihood that many Christians attended the school since many northern state governments, like Yobe, spend public funds on Islamic schools and discourage Christian schools,” he told ICC.

Militants with Boko Haram set fire to the dorm, and shot and slit the throats of students who tried to escape through windows during a pre-dawn attack Feb. 25. Many were burned alive. They “slaughtered them like sheep” with machetes, and gunned down those who ran away, said one teacher, Adamu Garba.

“From where I was hiding I could hear other students crying at the top of their voices,” one anonymous student told Open Doors. “I saw fire on the roofs of the hostels and other buildings in the school. I was also counting myself among the dead because some attackers came from behind and I heard them passing very close to where I was hiding. But God saved my life. After they killed the students and burnt the structures they fled.”

Your premise reminds me of arguements used to jsutify killing sharks in the seas pointing to how many humans sharks have mained or killed. Unfortunately for these proponents of shark hunting, humans kill many more sharks annually than sharks do people.

The real ratio is probably much higher, and a reasonable upper bound for Muslim fatalities (based mostly on higher estimates of "excess deaths" in Iraq due to the sanctions regime and the post-2003 occupation) is well over one million, equivalent to over 100 Muslim fatalities for every American lost.
