Key Christian Conservative Admits Medical Marijuana Has Benefits

Colorado may have legalized recreational marijuana use, but one prominent Christian conservative says it's only a matter of time before those laws are rolled back, even as he conceded that the substance may have some legitimate medical benefits.

Jim Daly, president of Focus On The Family, a Colorado-based evangelical group that traditionally takes a conservative approach to social issues, made his remarks to KRDO in Colorado Springs on Thursday. During the conversation, Daly said that he believes "there are some medical benefits derived" from marijuana, but that he doesn't approve of recreational marijuana use and that its legalization -- recently effected in Colorado and Washington state -- won't last.

"I think five to 10 years from now, we're going to look back on this and say, 'Maybe that wasn't such a wise idea' and we're going to rescind those laws," Daly told the station.

"Rock n Roll" is just a fade. It will never last.........

"My My, Hey, Hey"
"4:20 is here to stay"

Soo?

I've been saying that for years.

I have no problem with medical use. I am against legalization for recreational use until they can come up with a accurate test to determine how stoned someone is, as they have with alcohol. Either that or else make it so that anyone who test positive for weed is treated as if they are stoned and lose their license if caught driving.

Why is it that when people don't fit neatly into the category that they've been placed in, liberals act surprised?

If a Republican embraces an idea that the left has decided is liberal, they go into shock. It's the same when a minority embraces conservative ideas. They think something is wrong and the name calling or harsh criticism begins.

Lesson is that you can't label people or truly divide by party. Most I know go issue by issue and decide where they stand. I support marriage for all. I don't support illegal immigration or socialism. I support pot for medical use, but realize that people lie about ailments just to get it and many will still buy it on the street and not from the legal stores. Then the idiots will go out and drive. I support taking care of the disabled and poor, but also realize that people will lie about being disabled to get a check and that many work under the table and don't report income.

Every issue deserves consideration and no issue is really left or right. It's a matter of wrong or right.

Pot, like any other drug, is a legitimate way to treat pain. It's no different than any other drug, except that it's likely much less addictive than narcotics. That actually makes it a better choice, though it shouldn't be given to people who would smoke it near children or don't have a clear diagnosis of a painful condition. Like any other drug, it tends to be abused by people. Those who are addicted to any substance tend to feign some ailment to take doctors into giving them pain meds or they just buy the stuff illegally.

The problem is that government is ill-equipped to oversee laws once they create them. Fraud, waste and abuse is rampant and it will be with this.

Some Republicans want to add pot to the list of things you cannot purchase with an EBT card. That is a good idea because if it's dispensed for medical purposes, the Medicaid or Medicare will handle the bill. EBT cards are already used for cigarettes and other non-essentials. It's a matter of time before people want to use EBT cards for pot. I bet there will be a debate about this soon.

You tell 'em, Bodey!!

Any one that thinks inhaling smoke into their lungs will produce a positive effect is a moron. My God, how stupid do people have to be to justify their own stupidity.

There are some great purposes for marijuana, it doesn't have to be smoked!

And who cares what some religious guy thinks? Other than stupid liberals, my gosh, when are liberals going to grow up.

It's interesting that the left elevated almost obscure Jim Daley to the rank of "key Christian conservative" but that's OK. What isn't OK is Huffington/ Media Matters turning a (typical) out of context comment into an editorial that is opposite of what the speaker intended. Why do lefties eat this shit up? Daley's opinion was about rolling back Colorado's liberal marijuana laws not expanding them.

this just proves more of Liberalism is a mental disorder

they can't have people smoking cigarettes

But smoking pot which is probably more harmful to the lungs and the buildup of Thc in the brain is JUST FINE AND dandy

It's a cheap (and typical) shot to play Daley that way. Is that what we can expect from the tax exempt Media Matters and Huffington from now on? A left wing "journalist" feeds a provocative question to a victim and (tax exempt) MM is waiting in the wings salivating about the way they can turn it into a freaking propaganda lie. It beats talking honestly about issues anyway.

Obama: Pot is not more dangerous than alcohol

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama said he doesn’t think marijuana is more dangerous than alcohol, “in terms of its impact on the individual consumer.”

“As has been well documented, I smoked pot as a kid, and I view it as a bad habit and a vice, not very different from the cigarettes that I smoked as a young person up through a big chunk of my adult life. I don’t think it is more dangerous than alcohol,” the president said an interview with “The New Yorker” magazine.

BOTH are extremely harmful.

But since pot has a combination of two negatives - it has all the risks from smoking ( because of the combustion) and all the risks of THC intoxication.

Strict medicinal use of THC ( and there are VERY FEW) should be prescribed and the prescriptions have to be controlled by DEA as narcotics prescriptions are.
