Rather, it's about supporting programs whereby an individual gives his time to support a specific program, and in return receives a nominal stipend and some kind of tuition assistance or loan forgiveness.

And I don't think either party gets kudos for sending the military kids off for multiple tours

The purpose of the thread is the same as the purpose of the political system; to further the dysfunctional partisanshithead division that the entire power structure runs on to promote the status quo and the continued cannibalization of society at large for the benefit of a very privileged few perched at the top, same as it ever was. The beauty of our system is that no one is ever responsible for anything; neither of the “two” political parties, not the american public.

Endless bitch-n-blame. “Neither” party has to do anything for anyone outside the 1%er crowd, then they “both” simply blame the “other” party for not accomplishing what its following clamors for. And then the public follows that, getting caught up in the hysteria of orchestrated mass paranoia, and blames the “other” party, its adherents, and anyone else who won’t strictly align with them, including any and all with any independent view at all.

So that the American public can escape any responsibility as well. The entire thing is quite neurotic.
