On the eve of the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the civil rights march in Selma, Alabama, the unemployment rate among African Americans remains more than twice that of white Americans and nearly twice the national average.

According to the latest jobs figures released Friday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the African American unemployment rate for the month of February was 10.4 percent, compared to the white unemployment rate of 4.7 percent and national average of 5.5 percent.

Yo, you notice that Obama and Holder throw lip service to blacks and that is it, but yet, the blacks still kiss their azz? Yes, Obama will throw some more lip service when he makes a trip to Selma!

The OP is mindlessly repeating a very old talking point.

It's the supposed liberal conspiracy of how the evil government turns blacks into dependents who then must vote for liberals to receive continued support.

The real problem that blacks and other poor communities face is the destruction of the postwar wage and benefit structure.

Here is how it happened. We had spectacular economic growth from 1945-1973. Then came stagflation, which destroyed profit margins and lead to high unemployment.

Reagan told us that our incentive structure must be fixed to restore profits. He said that high taxes and high labor costs destroyed the incentive of suppliers (i.e., capitalists) to invest and grow the economy. He said that we needed to get rid of the expensive postwar labor and benefit structure in order to restore profit margins and ensure that capital was effectively deployed.

So we did it.

We listened to Reagan.

We busted unions, lowered wages, etc.

Now, our largest employer, Walmart, does not pay enough money for a family to survive without food stamps. Since so many blacks are born dirt poor, they must start in crippling poverty, in the worst jobs, where merely surviving usurps all their energy. This makes it hard to build inter-generational wealth where black families can give their children the same kind of "head start" that wealthier families can provide.

In addition to getting rid of live able wages for the poor, we also liberalized trade so that our capitalists could shift their production to cheaper labor markets in places like communist China. This lead to a great deindustrialization inside our great cities where ghettos replaced factories.

We also saw the progressive unwinding of welfare, which started with Reagan and ended with Clinton, who, with Gingrich, made the largest cuts in history. This is when we saw an increase in black incarceration, where, using the war on drugs, blacks were moved from dismantled welfare programs to prison cells.

The OP has probably never read one research paper or taken a university class on any of the issues surrounding black families and the various impediments to wealth accumulation. He is a creature of talk radio and Fox News.

The big manufacturing centers provided jobs for black as well as white working class. Anybody beyond a certain age remembers this. Now the right wing would like to end postal and civil service jobs. privatatize everything including the prisons and court systems . Profit before people. What's surprising is the number of working class republicans give this attitude such a big huzzah.
