You are one of the boards problems to A LOT of us too. You've never answered any "problems" I've had. The only person who has is Jim..

It's just a messageboard, nothing woth getting all bothered about. There are places like the DU where you will get banned the first time you say something that is not of thier way so you should be happy with a place of such. Be thankful I'm no longer involved with my hitler like ways, you would beg for a cream puff like OCA to be back in the mod crew!

So I believe re the DU. Never been there..

Ah, but you have a sense of humour, and being Jim's bro you can't be all that bad - plus your own website is kinda cool (and similar to this one re navigation - gee I wonder why! :eusa_eh: )

That is way too much information for you to know about me!
Would I be wrong in guessing that your were a used to be here that reincarnated himself?

Here's my 2 cents, in case anyone still cares to hear my opinions regarding board policy and overall atmosphere.

Just as with a new member to the board, allow Greg time to get a feel for things here. He's already shown several times that he is open to new ideas, and shown the willingness to compromise by returning select smilies. A few 'adult' still remain missing, and maybe thats best if advertising efforts are underway and you don't want to give off the wrong image. There will always be a fine line between what some consider innocent fun and others consider crossing the line. In these cases I've always felt it best to compromise, and it appears that is what Greg is trying to do.

Regarding moderation, that shouldn't be an issue. There are several factors that went into the current moderation crew and none of them had to do with political affiliation. Almost every mod has been here since the very early stages of the board. Mods that are on-line during various hours of the day. Mods that have shown themselves to be reasonable and/or polite when dealing with others. Should Greg think there are changes to be made, I'm sure he'll make solid decisions.

I think Greg should be allotted more than a week to see what type of changes or improvements he can perform. There's an awful lot of posts and members to get familiar with before one can truly gauge a forum. Nobody can expect him to make a fair decision for himself without him seeing things with his own eyes.

Yep, and that is about all you have left after all the generous donations from the people here. Oh yeah people, thanks for those donations, my board has been running for free the past year! :clap2:

You're right. He paid for it. But he bought a board with people who are grown ups and who didn't complain about the way it existed. I don't think we need anyone making the board PG. Just sayin... it's his business, but it doesn't bode well for discussion if the board it pg'ized and threads are closed because they get off target.

Oh yeah... and did I say we're grown ups who don't need morality police?

Besides, I just asked for an explanation. Don't you think we should know if the person who bought the board has issues with certain things?

I'm on another board, a military board, that is in meltdown right now because admin made a change to PG. Not good.

Everyone here is used to being asked opinion, at least before changes are made.
Now the new guy comes in and is just making changes which don't set well with many folks that have been here along time..Maybe he wants to clean house, I donno..

Sure it's his board, but fucked up managment choices means a fucked up board. Your dealing with people not objects that look pretty when someone makes a visit to the site. It's not a store front.

Ask me how I feel.LOL

Ouch!

Hey P, here is the problem with that scenario:
Most webmasters are in the game to make money, not strictly to keep a core of members happy. You have to understand that Jim was'nt about that, and gave you all a place here to have fun with. Running a board has some costs, it's not easy when you are not making money with it to just throw it out there for people to have fun with. Although donations did help I know he poured alot of dough into this joint. That was quite a few years as well so now he finally gets a bit of a reward for his effort.
Greg has a whole new member core to get aquainted with, he won't be able to make everyone happy all the time so give it some time before you pass judgement on a new guy trying to get it going from where it was while making a few adjustments of his own.

No, actually she is not. See, she received an explanation and didn't like it so now we cry like a bitch. Accept the explanation and move on, in fact crying about smilies is kind of faggoty and childish, lol guess this is right up your alley!

A-frackin'-MEN!

I can't believe how many people are getting pissy over some emoticons. Talk about childish and immature in the extreme.

All true SE.

All true SE.

Well you been here long enough as well to know that this place will go on even with a few bumps along the way. When there is a board with a good core of members it will take alot to make it flop, I don't see that happening here. This place survived all the drama of an everday soap opera, and still forges ahead. Roll with the changes, and before you know this too will pass like everything else did.

Of course moderation is an issue when some are treated differently from others. Especially when it appears the main difference between people is their political or religious persuasion.

The key to your above statement is your last sentence....

Nah, usually I just ban em myself. Pretty much every loser that comes in pissing and moaning about smilies when they never contributed a friggin dime to this board is in danger of getting the boot.

Greggy loves OCA! I'm on his xmas list!

Congratuls on being on his xmas list.

Serious man, fucking contrats. Way to fucking go. You are the fucking man. No, you are the fucking mod dude. You fucking rock.

:clap2:

guess my one little quip about the smilies is safe, cuz I gave more than a fucking dime, yeah!

I was more than happy to give him a shot... still am... but perhaps by the same token, he a) should have gotten a feel for us before he implemented changes; and b) why the only change being one to disney-fi the board?

And I understand about advertising. But, and no offense intended, why would you want anyone around who was made squeamish by a couple of adult emoticons. I wouldn't want to hang out with them either in real life or cyber.

As for the mods.... no prob with most.. but some dude. :eusa_hand:

And I can tell you that when I was a mod on a different site, that I would have been canned for going after individual posters.... particularly if I were the one to fire the first salvo.

Hi, btw, I knew who you were, too. ;)

I Still Like The Old Smiles...The ones now, is certainly a step up from THOSE LAST ONES....(gag)...

Damn, I'm famous and did'nt know it! :eusa_doh:

I can tell you as I had a large part in the mod selection here that they do not go after individuals for any other reason except for those breaking the rules. Unlike many places the mods take part in the threads, and they are entitled to thier own opinions as well. I don't know the current status of things these days around here but if you feel picked on because you have a different view well than you need to just learn to deal with that, people do see things differently than others. When discussing a topic you have to seperate the moderator from the member, understand that there is two parts to them so long as they take part in a discussion.
