"The California Nurses Association and National Nurses United sent a flyer to members noting that Kaiser had threatened nurses with firing if they wear their own N95 masks, which offer a high level of protection from airborne contaminants, to work. “Kaiser has told nurses that if they’re seen wearing their personal N95 masks, they could be fired ‘on the spot’ for insubordination,” the flyer read.

Close to 100 nurses and family members gathered outside Kaiser’s Oakland Medical Center on Monday night to protest the new guidelines, saying that they put both patients and critical staff at risk. Staff at the center have been caring for patients from the Grand Princess cruise ship, which had at least 21 passengers test positive for Covid-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus."

Let's see if those oh so caring Prog leaders of Ca step in and stop this.

If indeed Kaiser is doing this then it's most likely two related issues behind it, First is quality control, the can't guarantee that individually owned masks are truly compliant with Kaiser safety protocols which leads to the obvious second issue, legal CYA. Not saying it's right or wrong just putting forth the most possible (and most obvious) reasons.

The Nurses' union sent out the flyer, not Kaiser Permanente. Stop misrepresenting facts. Besides, I would expect that Kaiser would want to ensure that proper masks are being worn.

Prove them wrong or stuff it son.

"NURSES AT AN Oakland, California, hospital caring for patients being tested for Covid-19 received instructions this week to reuse disposable medical equipment, including masks and eye protection. The hospital, Kaiser Permanente Oakland Medical Center, issued guidelines to nurses explaining how to clean single-use supplies to serve multiple patients during one shift. "

As you can see they truly have their Nurses best interest at heart.

This is another case of the media pushing half truths.

Kaiser spokesperson Marc Brown said firing nurses for using their own N95 gear is not the company’s official policy. Asked if nurses would not be disciplined if they wear their own masks, Brown did not provide an answer. “That is not our policy. We provide the appropriate medical-grade protective equipment for the protocols and level of patient care being provided. We cannot assure the integrity of protective equipment not provided by Kaiser Permanente,” Brown wrote in a statement to The Intercept. “We want them to wear equipment we can be sure is effective.”
Kaiser nurses last week received guidelines downgrading protective standards and giving instructions on how to reuse certain types of eyewear and masks. That change came after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention earlier this month downgraded from protocols for airborne contamination to protocols for droplet contamination, noting that the change was based on supply rather than science.

So let's review.....

Kaiser did not say "We're going to fire you if you have good mask protection".

Kaiser changed their policies, based on the shortage of supplies. There is no indication that any nurse has been fired for having an N95 mask.

Only that they want nurses to re-use masks, because supplies are low, and they need to make their limited supplies on hand, last as long as possible.

Every single time you read anything in the news, you need to assume it has a spin. Stop letting the news give you 5 tidbits of a story, spinning it into a crisis, and getting all freaked out about it. If they are in the news media, you can count on them being at best lazy worthless reporters, or at works flat out lying trash. Stop freaking out.

Son, I never "freak" about anything. This tells you what you need to know :

They make pretty good money off of the sick community in California and where ever else they may be now. Plus they suck up federal grant money like crazy.

So the medical system is taking cues from the CDC, or the Federal government.

Are you suggesting the public ignores the government, or that government has a negative influence on society?

In which case, why are you complaining Trump didn't react fast enough?

Regardless, the supplies are limited. It doesn't matter what is in the best interest of the nurses, if you simply don't have the supplies.

I can tell you until the end of time, that you need to have a mask... but if there are no masks for you to have.... what difference does it make?

So which is worse.... telling people to re-use masks so they at least have a mask..... or telling them to keep doing what they are doing, and they run out of masks completely, and now nurses have no masks whatsoever?

Dumb argument sir. Very dumb.
