That degree might have the big wheels in publishing take you seriously at that first meeting. I had a few things published back in the 1970s. I was a teen. I didn't think my work was good enough but others did. So go for it.

Poems from my high school creative writing class. My teacher and some others from the local university submitted alot of the classes work to a magazine. And mine were some that the magazine published.
