He's got a long way to go in days and in money, raised for the O Block Community Center. But he's 50 days in and has raised over 2 million dollars.

Chicago–Pastor Corey Brooks’ 100 Day Campout Against Gun Violence has reached 50 days and is $2million closer to building the Project H.O.O.D. Leadership and Economic Opportunity Center.

Brooks, the founder of not-for-profit Project H.O.O.D., is raising $35million to bring resources, construction certification, job training, entrepreneur training, and recreation to a Chicago neighborhood plagued with poverty and violence. He began camping outside on November 20, 2021 and will continue until February 28, 2022. Brooks is on the roof 24/7 and does not leave for any reason. “It is a sacrifice to be away from my family and church,” said Brooks. “But I believe we, as a city and community, can change *O Block to Opportunity Block.”

Chicago’s business leaders have joined Brooks on the roof to help raise money and strategize solutions to heal the community. Tonight’s overnight guest is William Stilley, CEO of Adial Pharmaceuticals. Wintrust Bank, George O’Neill, and two anonymous donors have presented Pastor Brooks with a $2.5million matching gift. Two million dollars have been raised so far.

Project H.O.O.D. invites media professionals to the roof today, 6615 S. King Drive, between noon and 10:00 p.m. People in the community are driving by and honking their horns to support Brooks, a music truck is out front, and Project H.O.O.D. is receiving donations for the matching gift; dollar for dollar.

It's certainly not mentally healthy to allow theology to steal this most commonly-shared human sentiment. Screw the opportunist theologian.

Drug gangs aren't going to put a hit out on a pastor. Thats what the white mafia would do. You know, that white gang who ships drugs into black communities.
