The cause of fighting against abolition was a just cause.....John Brown however is complicated -- now if he was trying to do all of this because his desired presidential candidate lost an election -- I am sure he would be viewed as a hero for sure -- that is far nobler cause than abolition....

I understand your simile . But I rather doubt our intellectually challenged liberals will. The overt hypocrisy of a party that urges civil unrest and violence over many months and then gets elected on a platform condemning it. Look up stuff like the Confiscation Act, 2nd Confiscation Act, Militia Act, 13th Amendment that outlawed slavery etc., and who voted for it and against it.

Most 'abolitionists' were of the 'Ship Them All Back To Africa' variety, i.e. white nationalists, as was Lincoln. The 'Anti-Slavery' canard wasn't played until late in the war, when they needed to pretend they weren't just war-mongering for money as the death toll skyrocketed. We know what they really were fighting for, keeping blacks in the South and out of the northern states and new territories, and they did exactly that.

The Peanut Gallery can find a copy of the book Re-electing Lincoln, which quotes Lincoln directly admitting his Emancipation Proclamation was just a military ruse and that Congress didn't have the power to ban slavery in any state when he was asked why he vetoed the Wade-Davis Bill, the second Bill to try and outlaw slavery after the first one also failed to pass. His 'Re-construction Plan' was already in place in three states, so we know what that plan was, and it served the purpose of keeping blacks from fleeing north, which is what most northerners wanted.
