In 1859 his group took control of the armory at Harper’s Ferry so that slaves could arm themselves and fight for their freedom. His attempt failed.

Is violence against the powers of government sometimes justified?

Concord?
Operation Valkyrie to kill Hitler?

The cause of fighting against abolition was a just cause.....John Brown however is complicated -- now if he was trying to do all of this because his desired presidential candidate lost an election -- I am sure he would be viewed as a hero for sure -- that is far nobler cause than abolition....

So if Trump won there would have been no riots?

Hope you don't mind I share this for the Poll.

A weird historical twist, the Marines that captured Brown where led by Colonel Robert E. Lee and Lt. J.E.B. Stuart.

That would have to be a pretty compelling reason.

Not just because one's favoriter candidate lost.

A coup is a coup. Either by force or theft.

That may be so. But there isn't actual proof. It is just sour grapes until y'all provide some.

Yeah, that’s why no bipartisan investigation to prove the vote was legit to show 74 million Americans the process is sound.

I understand your simile . But I rather doubt our intellectually challenged liberals will. The overt hypocrisy of a party that urges civil unrest and violence over many months and then gets elected on a platform condemning it. You apparently can fool most of the people most of the time if you are a progressive liberal.

John Brown lived with a government that allowed him to make change in a democratic way. There were anti slavery factions elected to congress. He could have helped his cause in a political way, but he chose terrorism, and paid the price. Compare him to those during the revolution of 1776. The British did not give the colonist that option .

What percentage of Congress?

Nothing personal, but 3/4 of what I read today is bullshit, how can I trust a web site?

Libraries are full of information. Enjoy the research.
What's a library?
A place where politically connected family members escort you to the computer that's 1/4 the power of the one you have at home and cost 3x as much.
Yes, I am very familiar with that waste of money called a Library.

Look up stuff like the Confiscation Act, 2nd Confiscation Act, Militia Act, 13th Amendment that outlawed slavery etc., and who voted for it and against it.

Most 'abolitionists' were of the 'Ship Them All Back To Africa' variety, i.e. white nationalists, as was Lincoln. The 'Anti-Slavery' canard wasn't played until late in the war, when they needed to pretend they weren't just war-mongering for money as the death toll skyrocketed. We know what they really were fighting for, keeping blacks in the South and out of the northern states and new territories, and they did exactly that.

The Peanut Gallery can find a copy of the book Re-electing Lincoln, which quotes Lincoln directly admitting his Emancipation Proclamation was just a military ruse and that Congress didn't have the power to ban slavery in any state when he was asked why he vetoed the Wade-Davis Bill, the second Bill to try and outlaw slavery after the first one also failed to pass. His 'Re-construction Plan' was already in place in three states, so we know what that plan was, and it served the purpose of keeping blacks from fleeing north, which is what most northerners wanted.
