The Twinkies actually spent some money for a change.

The Twins' hometown kid is staying anchored t[o home.

All-Star catcher Joe Mauer and Minnesota completed an eight-year, $184 million deal, a contract which will inevitably be hailed within baseball as an example that teams like the Twins do have a chance to keep their homegrown talent.

Congrats, Joe!

I'm glad he signed with the Twins. He is a hometown hero and that is where he belongs.

Might be the best catcher of all time

Might be the best catcher of all time

What a ridiculous statement.

With names like Bench, Pudge, And Piazza, how does such a thought even cross your mind?
How about Bull Dickey, and Yogi?

Joe is a good player, but a long way from being te best just yet.

He's got the right set of tools to do it but we are what? At least five consistent and healthy seasons away before we can start to talk about where Mauer ranks amongst the greats?

At least.

Yogi won THREE MVPS and 11 WS rings.

Good luck matching that Joe.

He won't get the rings, but then again nothing short of a Yankee EVER will, so that shouldn't necessarily be a barometer.

And yeah, Mauer hasn't played NEARLY long enough to be considered in this list yet.

Art is right. 5 more years, with a total of 10 years of .300 hitting and a couple more gold gloves, and I'll consider him for this list.
