Jimmy Carter Cures ObamaCare

I'm paid as much as any of you.

The topic of this thread was - ostensibly - "Jimmy Carter Cures Cancer." Disingenuous at best, but it led to a real-life fact, namely that Carter's influence has affected this: House passes ‘Jimmy Carter’ bill to help Georgia cancer... | www.ajc.com

Now, what's the problem? Do some of you object to the fact that cancer patients in Georgia (one of those states whose legislators refused the Medicaid expansion) now have a chance to get the same drug that cured his cancer?

Or is it just that you can't stomach the fact that yet another "Obamacare is teh suk" thread did not turn out as planned?

Good news and good news!

1. Good news!: "Carter: Cancer is gone
Former President Jimmy Carter said Sunday his cancer is gone.

Carter said in a statement that his most recent MRI brain scan did not reveal any signs of the original cancer spots or any new ones and that he’ll continue his treatment.

Carter, 91, initially made the announcement...." near the beginning of the Sunday School class he was teaching..." Jimmy Carter: Cancer is gone, former president announces

2. From August:
"Former president Jimmy Carter on Thursday detailed an array of treatments, including radiation, that he will undergo for the melanoma doctors discovered in his liver and brain.

But he also mentioned that he had received an infusion of pembrolizumab, better known as Keytruda, which is among the first in a promising new class of drugs aimed at unleashing the human immune system to fight cancer cells. The Food and Drug Administration rapidly approved the "breakthrough" drug last year for patients with advanced melanoma who have exhausted other therapies, saying it represented a substantial improvement over existing treatments."
The ‘breakthrough’ drug Jimmy Carter is taking to treat his cancer

a. The cost of Keytruda:

3. A key administration figure committed to cost cutting is Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, a health policy advisor in the Office of Management and Budget and brother of Rahm Emanuel, the president's chief of staff wants doctors to look beyond the needs of their own patient and consider social justice. They should think about whether the money being spent on their patient could be better spent elsewhere.

4.Dr. David Blumenthal, a Harvard professor and key health advisor to President Obama, conceded that "government controls on health care spending are associated with longer waits for elective procedures and reduced availability of new and expensive treatments and devices." Could this mean angioplasty, bypass surgery, hip replacement, and knee replacement? Who could this be aimed at? How about ‘longer waits’ for cancer patients? Mammograms and MRI’s? Did somebody say "Death Panels"?

Simply....wow.

I think you pretty much nailed it down in the first 30 posts. I can't see who you are responding to...but I have a good idea.

The question remains......and what the hell does Jimmy Carter have to do with it it anyway ?

Obamacare was about costs.

But take away people's access to a very expensive drug and all of a sudden....wait.....you can't do that ????????

Obamacare, as a law, has turned out to be one of the biggest screw ups in history.

Of course, he's correct...

The Obama Administration is aggressively exploiting regulation to achieve its policy agenda, issuing 157 new major rules at a cost to Americans approaching $73 billion annually....twice the annual average of his predecessor George W. Bush. And much more regulation is on the way, with another 125 major rules on the Administration’s to-do list, including dozens linked to the Dodd–Frank financial regulation law and the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, known as Obamacare. Red Tape Rising: Five Years of Regulatory Expansion

. "Obamacare health insurance co-ops surged past the $1 billion mark in losses this week, making history of sorts. The insolvencies, totaling $1.36 billion, mean that the co-ops have burned through more than half of theoriginal $2 billion appropriated in 2010 for the program under the Affordable Care Act. The funds were loaned to the start-up co-ops in 2012 and were to be repaid in 15 years, according to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, which manages Obamacare.

...13 of the 23 federally-financed Obamacare co-ops have officially failed in only two years. Most are in the process of default as insurance regulators attempt to pay customer’s medical bills, cover medical providers and pay other creditors.

The key phrase there being "with health insurance."

How do you imagine people without health insurance would be happy with their insurance? :wtf:

Yes, we were.

However, most of us also said we knew that something needed to be done (which it did).

It just wasn't the clusterf**k we call Obamacare.

And Jimmy Carter does nothing at all to help the argument in it's favor.

Carter did nothing except undermine what he originally supported.

Now, we are saying go crazy spending money on treatment when Obummercare was supposed to manage that.

And nobody really knows if Carter was cured by this new drug. It makes for great headlines.....so who wouldn't use it.....

How do you imagine people without health insurance would be happy with their insurance? :wtf:

Who knows? Maybe they'd be happy to avoid dealing with insurance companies.

The problem, which I'm certain you'll ignore, is that ACA tells us what kind of insurance we must buy, and who we can buy it from.

And gives no option not to buy (or shell out money)....you can not buy....but still pay.

Only the far left.

Oh wait...It's the Heritage Foundations "fault".......should tell you something about the argument (like there isn't one).

ACA gives everyone "access" to shitty, overpriced insurance by requiring everyone to buy shitty, overpriced insurance.

ACA gives everyone "access" to shitty, overpriced insurance by requiring everyone to buy shitty, overpriced insurance.

And some sick fucks think it's funny.

Yes, it seems that the law fits the narrative.

Notice you don't hear the same complaints anymore (pre-obummercare). Even though they exist.

Health care spending is still 17% of GDP.

Obamacare is how old now ?

Oh that's right...it hasn't been fully implemented...and why not ?

Because the democrats like the idea of sharing some power over the next decade.

What's funny, in a sad sort of way, is not the PPACA, but the repetitive chanting of the Party Line, as if the lie repeated often enough will become the truth.

It does, for those who already :lalala:. The rest of us are looking around at the actual real-life results of greater access for patients and are laughing at the chanting.

And at those who quote their own posts.
