You know, tonight the second debate we have just witnessed the death of the conservatives in the republican party. Those that believe that hard work pays off. That youngsters who go to college & work their behinds off to get a better education, then go to work are supposed to get ahead in this country, & not be punished for it. That those of us who pay our mortgages on time, & whom are responsible enough to know when they can't afford something, not buy it. Those of us that live pay check to pay check in hopes of saving some day so we can retire. Those of us who do not expect others to pay for our health care, or our home mortages. Those of us that believe in this country--& who believe that America is still the best country on earth. Those of us who believe that if you cut loose the American population there is no stopping us on anything we want to do.

The republican party--had Mitt Romney, Rudi Gulliani & a few more that represented the above ideas. Instead we got a very weak 72 year old John McCain--whose only hope was Sarah Palin--who is the female version of Ronald Reagan.

McCain--what in the hell--who supported this 700 Billion dollar bail out--who supported the pork within this bail-out bill & who tonight agreed that we should bail out the loosers who knew dam good & well that they were taking a risk when buying a home that they could not afford.

This is the first time in my life (55 years) that I cannot vote for either candidate.

Sarah--coodo's to you. You still represent the majority of this population--for Gods Sake do not let John McCain take you down with him. Go back to Alaska, run your state & God Bless you for who you are & what you represent.

I don't see how you can say that Ronald Reagan's trickle down economics took care of middle class America. The rich got richer and the poor got poorer. Not much happened to the middle class that was not already going to happen. I just don't understand the conservative infatuation. I will say however, Reagan's conservative ideals were much better then the neo-conservative nonsense the Bush and his cronies spew (that is not saying much if you ask me however).

Did you ever think this may be a set-up for a major defeat of your liberal ideas in 4 years? Why did the RNC nominate the weakest candidate they had to choose from?

They knew he would have an uphill road after 8 years with a republican in office. They knew that they would have to defend an unpopular war. They knew they would have to defend an economy that was slowing. So instead they put up the weakest member--so as not to de-foul the "real" conservatives within the party. Remember even John McCain was begging for support within his own party. The only thing that fired up his base, was Sarah Palin a true conservative.

Nope--you liberals may have been set up big time for 2012.

We're right now in--"Trickle UP economics". You know what Obama says working from the bottom UP. We just witnessed thanks to the democrat party--& their desire to make certain that "everyone deserves homeownship" regardless of their ability to pay has done to this country, & in fact the "World markets" that are crashing at our feet.

Those that work hard, pay their mortgages, actually pay federal income tax, are punished for those that don't. It's called socialism. Both Barack Obama, & John McCain promote this philosophy. Ronald Reagan would say absolutely no way.

I was going to ask this question in the Debate thread but, that thread is so unbalanced it might fall over, so I’ll ask here:

Did McCain offer up an additional 300B for the bad mortgages or was he referring to part of the 700B bailout package? I thought the ladder but, right after the debate one of the commentators on FNC said she thought that money would be in addition to the 700B.

Just curious what y’all think he meant.

The way some people speak about this man, like he was a saint and a savior for this country is beyond my comprehension. Ronald Reagan implemented one of the most massive expansions in federal spending, shot the debt through the roof, and oversaw a terrible crisis near the end of his term (Savings & Loans). He was also one of the most protectionist presidents in recent times. And that's ignoring his little adventures raiding small islands and arming international terrorists (Contras).
