This happens every election cycle, always in red states with extremist governors. Why do they hate our veteran heroes so much?

— A state Supreme Court justice on Tuesday urged Gov. Scott Walker to allow people to use veterans ID cards to vote after her uncle who fought at Iwo Jima was unable to cast a ballot in last week's primary election.

"It makes no sense to me that this proud patriot with a veterans card displaying his photo would be turned away from the polls and denied the right to vote," Justice Ann Walsh Bradley wrote to the Republican governor.

In her letter, Bradley said her uncle had fought at Iwo Jima, the bloody World War II battle that was immortalized in a photo of the U.S. flag being raised on the tiny Pacific island.

Tuesday marked the 71st anniversary of the 1945 flag raising.

Bradley's uncle, Leo Olson of Reedsburg, tried to use his veterans ID card to vote in last week's primary for a seat on the state Supreme Court, but that form of identification can't be used under the state's voter ID law.

Olson does not have a driver's license.

A military ID is a FEDERAL ID. It should be allowed for identification for voting purposes.
Voting is a State function, not Federal. A Federal ID is inappropriate. Only the State decides the requirements for voting in their Primaries and elections as long as discrimination isn't allowed. Don't blame the governor if the veteran doesn't get proper ID.

Iwo Jima Veterans are among the greatest examples of the greatest generation but you gotta comply with the state electoral law be able to vote. Call them up or log on to the internet or read the freaking newspaper but please don't use 85 year old former Marines as a political tool.

Why is a Military ID inappropriate? Seriously! Why do RWrs only support the military and vets if it's convenient for them?

Howey the homo drama queen strikes again. ...... :cuckoo: ..
So you agree that this proud veteran who put his life on the line for his country should have been denied his right to vote?

Isn't voter suppression great??? The GOP knows they do their best in elections when there's low voter turnout. So, showing how much they exactly love America and are great patriots, they suppress the vote. And they got all their directions from one of Koch Bros's tools, ALEC!
Now, let's let them get back to wrapping the American flag around themselves.

There's two sides to every story and all we've heard is one side. People would be wise to suspend judgment until they know all the facts.

Why doesn't his daughter take him to get a FREE ID, showing that he's a Wisconsin resident (and eligible to vote in that state)???

The only side that matters and needs to be known is that a Republican voter suppression law prevented a WWll Iwo Jima veteran from voting. Everything else is just an excuse to evade responsibility for the results of the voter suppression law.

Requiring ID prevents vote fraud. Why do you think our political leaders should be chosen by fraudulent elections.

. He took his own right to vote away when failing to follow the same rules the rest of us follow. Hey, tough luck, but this is just a case of not taking responsibility for yourself. You liberals need to learn why that's important for the betterment of Society.

Is it, then, your position that a passport should not be valid ID for voting?

Does it prove that you are a resident of that state?

As far as the topic goes regarding federal IDs, I think the federal government should be able to set the requirements for voting in federal elections so that the requirements are uniform across the whole country.

But unfortunately, that is not the law NOW.
