"The “South Carolina Prenatal Equal Protection Act of 2023” would amend the state’s code of laws, redefining “person” to include a fertilized egg at the point of conception, affording that zygote “equal protection under the homicide laws of the state” — up to and including the ultimate punishment: death. The bill was authored by Rep. Rob Harris, a registered nurse and member of the Freedom Caucus; it has attracted 21 co-sponsors to date. Rep. Nancy Mace, a Republican who represents South Carolina in the U.S. House, took to the floor on Friday to call attention to the bill, which she sees as part of a “deeply disturbing” trend. (Multiple Texas lawmakers have floated the idea of executing women who have abortions in the past. Those bills, proposed before the Supreme Court overturned Roe, failed.

Abortion is currently legal in South Carolina up to 21 weeks and 6 days; a 2021 ban outlawing abortion at six weeks was struck down by the state’s Supreme Court in January. obtaining medication to terminate a pregnancy without a doctor’s supervision — is illegal in the state, punishable with a fine of $1000 and up to two years in prison. Earlier this month, a Greenville woman was arrested under that law for taking pills to end a pregnancy in 2021."

The good news is.....South Carolina has now approved the use of death by electric chair and firing squad. So the idea of possibly having the chance to stand up one of these baby murdering whores against the wall and shooting her to death will be awesome and definitely a good deterrent to preventing abortion...definitely better than contraceptives or morning after pills.

What is the use of banning abortion if we are going to pick and choose when we want to call this murder? Treat these women like the killers they are and take them out....If someone kills a pregnant woman, we don't think twice about giving that murderer the death penalty, so why are mothers any different? Hopefully, more Republicans across every state will stand up for what is right -- and not be afraid of the backlash....if you truly believe it is murder, nothing should stop you from passing this law.

sounds like the baby killers should have stuck with safe rare and legal instead of making it into birth control and infanticide,,

This crap is put out by pro-abortionists who want to make pro-lifers look crazy.

The people who are pro-life (like me) want to help these woman who have been lied to and butchered...both physically and mentally.

Try to imagine what it would do to a young girls mind to be in the middle of the abortion procedure and realize that it is infact a living baby fighting the scissors for its very life. The scissors that is cutting its arms and legs off.

What a time to come to that realization...My heart goes out to girls who have suffered thru that!

hear hear...

Total insanity... any republican voicing this nonsense is trying to lose...
That and the fact, it would never fly in the Supreme Court. Even if passed, nobody will be executed, but the political damage will be done, not only in South Carolina, but across the country, guaranteeing Democrat control of US House and Senate, undoubtedly the Presidency in the next election, also. There is nothing conservative about being a public extremist in political leadership.

Keep the baby but get rid of the mother, eh? I'm starting to really wonder about the GOP. Maybe I could see some jail time for some mothers under some circumstances. But in the end, if a woman really doesn't want her child that bad, you're not going to stop her and the question arises whether you should try to FORCE her to have a child she does not want. I mean, would YOU want to grow up in that home?

You should read the bill instead of taking Rolling Stone's (lol) word for what's in it. You look like a retard.

I'm waiting for the real story to shake out... I think this is just another hoax.... or its establishment republicans that are fine staying in last place... executing woman for having an abortion is insane and I do not know a single hard right wing republican that would support it.... we don't even execute cold blooded murderers anymore....

Some people consider abortion murder, so this isnt surprising.

Yes. At the very least they should get the same charge as a mother that hires someone to kill her 1 year old.

But those claiming it is murder never push this

And, once again, one whacked out end of the spectrum is going too far. This time it's the Right.

Back and forth, back and forth.

We just don't fucking learn.

Being whacked out has been almost exclusively the right's domain for as long as I can remember. Sure there are left wing nutters but nobody takes them seriously. Maybe there's an argument to be made for left wing nuttery at the local level, like the defunding the police nonsense, but other than that, it's the right that's running the freight cars over the cliff. They are a bunch of fucked up fucking fuckers.
