It s Tamir Rice s fault - The Washington Post

As if the November 2014 Cleveland police shooting of Tamir Rice wasn’t bad enough. The Post’s Wesley Lowery reports that the city of Cleveland is blaming the 12-year-old who was playing with a toy gun in a park near his home for his own death. In response to the federal lawsuit filed by Tamir’s family, city officials accuse Tamir of “failure…to exercise due care to avoid injury.”

Right. It’s Tamir’s fault that the 911 caller’s admonition that the gun he was playing with was “probably fake” never made it to the officers.

It’s Tamir’s fault that he was shot and killed by police officer Timothy Loehmann just “1½ to 2 seconds” after his car arrived on the scene.

It’s Tamir’s fault that Loehmann quit his previous police job before he was dismissed for “deficiencies” only to be hired by a police department nowunder federal investigation for “allegations that CPD officers use excessive force, including unreasonable deadly force.”

It’s Tamir’s fault that first aid was administered, not by Loehmann or his partner, but by an FBI agent who happened to be in the area — four minutes after Tamir was shot.

And it’s Tamir’s fault that he was not seen as a child. “Shots fired, male down, um, black male, maybe 20,” one of the officers said when calling in the shooting. Or as Cleveland Police Patrolman’s Association president Steve Loomis told Politico magazine, “He’s menacing. He’s 5-feet-7, 191 pounds. He wasn’t that little kid you’re seeing in pictures. He’s a 12-year-old in an adult body.” Given everything we know now about his case, the rest of Loomis’s quote is literally and figuratively unbelievable.

That black children don’t get to be children, as Stacey Patton reminded in an op-ed for The Post last November, is as enraging as it is heartbreaking. The Cleveland response to the Rice family lawsuit is but further proof that African American men and boys must live their lives beyond reproach, devoid of mistakes and bad choices at any age, if they are to avoid being blamed for their own death.

Isnt it amazing how its always the guys fault who is full of bullets and cant give his versions fault?

Was this kid 5'7" and 191 pounds?

Every black kid is hulking. No matter the age or size. Remember that..its a constant theme when dealing with black children.

But the answer is no. He also wasnt 20 years old or menacing unless you're some type of bitch

Yeah the police were just dying to kill a 12 year old black child. So much so that they were willing to risk thier livelihood and prison time to do so. #theydidmalcomdirty #fightthepoweragainstwhitedevils

No they were really scared of the 12 year old boy...

Oh and his 14 year old sister:
“The family is outraged that rather than comfort a sister coming to the aid of her dying brother, the officers instead manhandled and tackled her, cuffed her and thoughtlessly tossed her in the back of a patrol car.”

Yanno, because maybe she had a gun too! Or was 5 ft 7 and menacing looking

Same with blaming rape victims in order to argue for defense of the accused.

This is what you get with a system that focused on judgment punishment and losing rights if found guilty, where hiding and not admitting wrong is rewarded by giving the benefit of the "doubt", while anything that could get you convicted means punishment and is avoided.

Restorative Justice systems would reward cooperation and restitution, and give incentive for recovery so that people can work and contribute to the debts owed for crimes and damages caused.

Unfortunately when our system mixes the guilt issue with negative stigma, instead of rewarding honesty with the opportunity to take responsibility for rehab and restitution for one's crimes in order to restore standing in society, this is what we get.

We keep paying lawyers for defense, which amount to denying in order to create doubt that ends up burdening the victim by shirking responsibility for consequences. Instead of hiring lawyers to negotiate cooperation and settlements fair to all sides, including crime victims, survivors and taxpayers otherwise left footing the bill.

Train and assist communities to buy out their own schools, set up their own city govt over their districts,
and they can hire and fire their own police, teachers, city administration, etc. and stop these abuses of authority
by having more direct representation and accountability. Quit the victim mentality, encourage equal ownership
if people want to be equal under law.

Before you get to home you have to first get to first base

I watched the extended video, it's impossible to tell he's a boy or that the gun wasn't real so you're being dramatic. The shooting happened fast but many slow cops are dead. Somehow the poor kid didn't not know it was wrong to play around pointing a realistic looking gun, and he did it a good while, must have scared the shit out of a lot of people. Did his mother not teach him anything or know about the gun? I'd put more of the blame on her.

Hmmm so the cop couldnt see the kid because he was watching the video? Sorry for being dramatic about a cop shooting a 12 year old....I should be more jovial. Or make jokes like some people here have done. Black people being assaulted seems to bring joy

Ahh the old emotional plea.

Of course you would. Anytime a black person is abused, assaulted or killed its his own fault.....Didnt you read the OP?

Gonna double down on the drama huh? The kid could have been an adult going by the video. Most people can't pick up the age through extra sensory perception like yourself.

You call facts emotions?
