For those of you who think the individual mandate is going away, and with it ACA - think again. The insurance lobby isn't giving up. They're just going back to plan 'A'.

The insurance industry has long been dreamed of installing legislation forcing people to buy their products. They pulled it off with auto-liability insurance with a state-by-state approach. And that was the original plan with health insurance, "Romneycare" being an early win.

But when Obama was elected, they decided to 'go for the gold' and skip the relatively laborious, piecemeal process of manipulating 50 different state legislatures. It might seem, with Trump's neutering of the national mandate, that their plan has backfired, and their rent-seeking ambitions doomed. But is that the case?

Clearly, they haven't given up. They're just going back to the original, state-by-state approach. But it will much easier this time around because the core conceit of ACA is still firmly in-place, namely the delusional fantasy that people should be able to buy insurance after they get sick. This provision will drive insurance prices through the roof unless we give in to their demands.

Watch people flee those states. At least people have a choice now.

Maybe. But most people don't buy their own insurance anyway, it will mostly be employers making the call. And since insurance rates will be much lower in states with mandates. It could work the other way around.

That's a good joke.. You be living in da new fascists state of America where corporations pull the strings...I am glad they could get a tax cut..

Actually, let’s see a link proving that to be the case.

82% of those covered under health insurance plans are covered by employer (49%) or government health insurance (33%). Only 18% provide their own insurance or have none.

So the statement that most people don't buy their own insurance is at least partically true as employers usually pay the bulk of the premium for coverage or they are on some form of government health insurance.

Not talking about that. I was talking about mandates producing lower rates for employers.

Oh, there's no guarantee of that at all. But it's the sales pitch the lobbyists are pitching to the states.

I'M all for it...if those blue states can make it work, more power to them. Maybe they will come up with a formula that works. But there will be no federal bailout. They knew the risks going in.

I'd love to see Conn. try to hit the working poor with a 10K fine.

It would be the end of a lot of things.

But that's not how they'll do it. They'll do their best to make it palatable for the states that acquiesce, likely even taking losses in those states simply to keep the ball rolling. Their end game here is to establish themselves as a sort of public utility, permanent middlemen in every health care transaction.

You are talking insurance companies.

I was talking government.

Insurance companies would never do something that stupid (and, of course, they can't).

Government on the other hand..........

As long as the insurance companies are making their profits via government mandates, that they are lobbying for themselves, I see little difference.

The UK is exposing the mandate for what it is, making your person property of the state and can be killed for the socialist meme...

Your giddyness is premature... People are about to get a first hand look at commie care and how even children can be killed to keep you in line...

The UK has proven DEATH PANELS are real.
