Palestinians are protesting about the latest instance of ethnic cleansing by the Israeli government. In the Beer Sheba (Beer es Saba) region of southern Israel about 30,000 inhabitants are about to be driven from their homes.

Their villages have been designated "unrecognised" for more than 60 years, making their lands easy prey for confiscation. And while they are refused the same rights as other Israeli citizens to facilities such as running water, schools and hospitals, the Israeli state demands their taxes.

The British government must condemn any move to evict the Palestinian citizens of Israel from their lands, which were documented under the British Mandate as privately owned Palestinian land – not ownerless as the Israeli state now claims.

Business Week: Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development Accepts Israel As Member
The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, which groups the world’s most developed economies, accepted Israel for membership today. “Israel’s scientific and technological policies have produced outstanding outcomes on a world scale,” the Paris- based organization said.

The OECD decision is a milestone in Israel’s “integration into the global economy, and expresses Israel’s obligations to adhere to the highest international standard,” Bank of Israel Governor Stanley Fischer said

OECD Secretary General Angel Gurria said today’s expansion “confirms our global vocation as the group of countries that search for answers to the global challenges, and establish standards in many policy fields such as environment, trade, innovation or social issues.”

OECD membership, along with Israel’s upgrade to developed market status by MSCI Inc., scheduled to take effect this month, “may help lower risk premiums on government bonds and make borrowing easier,” said Rafael Gozlan, chief economist at Tel Aviv-based Leader Capital Markets. MSCI Inc.’s stock indexes are tracked by investors with about $3 trillion in assets.

Angel Gurría, Secretary-General, Organization For Economic Cooperation and Development, Paris
29 June 2010, France

We are gathered here to celebrate Israel's Accession Agreement to the OECD.

As you know, accession to the OECD is an extremely rigorous and demanding process. Over the last three years, Israel has undergone in-depth reviews with 18 OECD Committees, which have scrutinised its policies in diverse fields, from investment to anti-corruption, from environment to fiscal affairs, from public governance to science and technology.

Indeed, for Israel, as for our other new and prospective Members, the successful conclusion of the accession process is not the end of the road. In fact, it is just the beginning of a process of mutual learning. And I would like to stress the “mutual” in this process. In fact, in certain areas, OECD countries have a lot to learn from Israel’s experience.

I can make specific examples how the “Israeli model” and its expertise can enrich the OECD.

Israel is a young and dynamic country whose economy has developed under difficult circumstances. Its success in extracting itself from huge macroeconomic problems of hyperinflation and massive public debt in the late 1980s and early 1990s is an experience that is widely quoted. This policy experience underscores the very critical role that good policy responses play on growth and confidence. As such it is of outmost relevance to all countries.

Israel’s valuable perspective on promoting innovation, science and technology is another example. In particular, policies encouraging small, high-tech firms through grants, business incubators and so on appear to have been highly successful and may be a model other countries wish to emulate.

So, we certainly look forward to Israel bringing diverse and valuable policy perspectives and expertise to the OECD.

The OECD has firmly established its place in the global economic architecture. It is gratifying that new countries – and successful reformers, such as Israel – recognise the value of our Organisation and wish to join us in our endeavours.

Ambassador, Ladies and Gentlemen:
Our relevance lies in our diversity. We are honoured to have Israel and the other new accession countries as our partners and colleagues in building a stronger, cleaner and fairer world economy. I would like to congratulate your country on all of its impressive achievements throughout the accession process.
Israel

Who's ethnically cleansing whom?

My message to the loathed Jews is that there is no god but allah, we will chase you everywhere We are a nation that drinks blood, and we know that there is no better blood than the blood of the Jews. We will not leave you alone until we have quenched our thirst with your blood, and our children's thirst with your blood, we will not rest until you leave the Muslim countries.

British Muslims For Israel: SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT
Here at BMFI, we do not believe the Arab-Israeli conflict is a war over land or religion, but it is a clash of ideas. Israel, as a Western liberal democracy, extends equal rights to all of its citizens, regardless of religion or race. Muslims have more rights in Israel than in any other country in the Middle East.

While Egypt guns down Sudanese refugees fleeing the murderous oppression of their government, Israel gives them home and shelter; while Lebanon denies Palestinian refugees access to healthcare, Israel provides emergency treatment for the residents of the West Bank and Gaza strip; while Syria keeps the Palestinians in refugee camps and sporadically slaughters them, Israel offered full citizenship to all its Palestinians after the Arab states attempted to destroy Israel and slaughter its Holocaust survivors in 1948.

British Muslims for Israel

Every year thousands of Palestinian patients from Gaza and the West Bank are treated in Israeli hospitals across the country. Patients also come from many Arab countries, some of which still don't even recognize Israel.

When a young Palestinian from the Gaza Strip was shot in the leg last year by Hamas during the ongoing conflict between the two main Palestinian political parties, Hamas and Fatah, he was offered treatment in both Egypt and Jordan, but instead he chose to go to Israel.

When I was injured I chose to come to Israel because it's well known that the treatment here is better than in Egypt - by a lot - or in Gaza. I had to have a microsurgery to replace a tendon in my foot, and I knew this was the best place to do it. He insisted that his identity be hidden, for fear of repercussions from Hamas.

Rokon Asadi, Medical Rep. for Arab Community:

All politics aside, Israel has a very good reputation in the world for medicine. There are many, many people who want to be treated by Israel. It just doesn’t matter to them [that it]s Israel. There would be many more patients coming from Persian countries, Arab and neighboring countries, if there wasn’t such difficulty getting their visas.

There's no ethnic cleansing going on anywhere in Israel, Gaza or West Bank.

The Armenians can give both of you an understanding of what truly is Ethnic Cleansing. :doubt:

Every year the population of both Israel and the Palestinians has increased. It might have decreased during the last Israeli response to Palestinian rocket fire.

Yes, you can post ten pages of response driven media created invective...

I choose not to as it is beaten by simple logic.

Puta, Israel's stance better than your shithole spain's stance.

The UN ranks Israel among the 15 best countries to live in (out of 170 countries) in the world and with the highest qualities of life, emphasizing human development, political and cultural freedom and equality in education, healthcare, life expectancy and income, ahead of England, Spain, Greece, Italy, Finland, Belgium, Denmark, Luxembourg and Austria

Indices & Data | Human Development Reports (HDR) | United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)

Human Development is a development paradigm that is about much more than the rise or fall of national incomes. It is about creating an environment in which people can develop their full potential and lead productive, creative lives in accord with their needs and interests. People are the real wealth of nations. Development is thus about expanding the choices people have to lead lives that they value. And it is thus about much more than economic growth, which is only a means —if a very important one —of enlarging people’s choices.

Fundamental to enlarging these choices is building human capabilities —the range of things that people can do or be in life. The most basic capabilities for human development are to lead long and healthy lives, to be knowledgeable, to have access to the resources needed for a decent standard of living and to be able to participate in the life of the community. Without these, many choices are simply not available, and many opportunities in life remain inaccessible.
