Israel denies planning Iran nuke attack

1 hour, 18 minutes ago

A British newspaper reported Sunday that Israel has drafted plans to strike as many as three targets in Iran with low-yield nuclear weapons, aiming to halt Tehran's uranium enrichment program. The Israeli Foreign Ministry denied the report.

Citing multiple unidentified Israeli military sources, The Sunday Times said the proposals involved using so-called "bunker-buster" nuclear weapons to attack nuclear facilities at three sites south of the Iranian capital.

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's office said it would not respond to the claim. "We don't respond to publications in the Sunday Times," said Miri Eisin, Olmert's spokeswoman.

Israeli Minister of Strategic Threats Avigdor Lieberman also declined to comment on the report.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Mark Regev denied the report and said that "the focus of the Israeli activity today is to give full support to diplomatic actions" and the implementation of a U.N. Security Council resolution imposing sanctions on Iran for refusing to halt enrichment...

Reasonable analysis:

...PJM Middle East Editor Allison Kaplan Sommer reports:

Anyone reading the Sunday Times story and is waiting for the nukes to start dropping any moment can take a deep breath and relax. There are several reasons to doubt that such an attack is truly imminent or even imaginable.

First and foremost - one must consider the source of this story. The Sunday Times journalist in question Uzi Mahnaimi, is a controversial figure, who co-authored a book with Bassam Abu Sharif, former senior adviser to Yasser Arafat and PLO press officer.

While some may believe he has actual military sources in Israel who use him to leak stories that won’t make it past censors, others think he is used by foreign agents to push stories that embarrass Israel. Still others go farther, calling him unprintable names and charging that that despite the fact he works for a mainstream British newspaper, his sources makes Jamil Hussein look like the White House press secretary.

One thing is clear: Mahnaimi makes a regular habit of reporting that Israel is about to attack Iran. If his reporting was accurate, Iranian nuclear facilities would already be a smoking ruin – not once, but multiple times.

Well I hope Israel hands Iran its ass over this whole mess it has caused. This isn't our job to slow down production or completely eliminate Iran’s nuke program. That is what regional neighbors are for. So thank you Israel in advance:clap2:

Finally!!

Israel has officially denied it. Don't hold you breath. Maybe some saber rattling .

Tel Aviv has got a plan and they will blow up Tehran's nuclear sites. Just like they did to Saddam's n-facilities in Osirak (1981). And yes , I believe they will use low yield nuclear weapons or so called "buster bombs".

You wouldn't expect Israel to go around screaming their lungs out that they have a plan to finish off Tehran's nuclear ambitions.
Just like the CIA dosen't publish its list of covert operations in the front page of New York Times!

Well Bunker busters are non-nuclear and are strictly used for hardened targets. Saddam knew all about them in DS1 when we rocked his underground world and we've refined our capabilities even further. They will do a nice job on any site large or small.
And about covert ops from the CIA. Well that goes without saying with the freedom of the press. in fact way too much covert operation details get leaked to the media. This shall be interesting to witness if it goes down.....

I wonder if the sending of additional U.S. troops to Iraq has anything to do with a proposed Israeli strike on Iran? I mean our troops are right at Iran's back door if they decide to counter strike the Israeli's. Maybe this was President Bush plan from the beginning?
