It's a check on Erdogan's Turkey.
It's a check on Erdogan's Turkey.
Greece understands they cannot prevail in a military confrontation with Turkey unless Turkey is threatened to the east by Armenia-Russia and the Kurds put pressure, even then it is doubtful. Greece could not defend the islands mere kilometers from Turkish shores and would instead seek to secure Crete and the Central Aegean with its naval and air forces while launching a tank attack on the Turkish Thrace region befitting their tanks, eventually threatening Constantinople and bombing it bridges. It's a check on Erdogan's Turkey.
Greece awarded a military tender (1.65 billion $, training aircraft) to Israel.
If that tender were not awarded to Israel then it would've been awarded to USA, France, Germany etc.

It is mathematically not possible for Greece to win anything in a confrontation against Turkey.
If they were such great allies, they'd have fulfilled the contract free of cost given how bad Greece's fiscal (debt) situation is.
Business is business.

The training centre will be modelled on Israel's own flight academy and will be equipped with 10 M-346 training aircraft produced by Italy's Leonardo (LDOF.MI), the ministry said.
