During the 16th and 17th centuries, in particular at the height of its power under the reign of Suleiman the Magnificent, the Ottoman Empire was a multinational, multilingual empire controlling much of Southeast Europe, Western Asia, the Caucasus, North Africa, and the Horn of Africa.[15] At the beginning of the 17th century the empire contained 32 provinces and numerous vassal states. Some of these were later absorbed into the Ottoman Empire, while others were granted various types of autonomy during the course of centuries.

Do you know how much entire Balkan Region suffered under Ottoman Rule? If not, maybe you better study this.

Are you native Hungarian? Or are you American of Hungarian ancestry but an American citizen now in Hungary? I ask as other day you say you work for some American thing in Budapest.

But already is a lot of agreement here. Now, I mention only one:

"Conducting numerous projects for protecting historical and cultural heritage and conveying that heritage to future generations in the best possible way, TIKA makes a significant contribution to the development of Turkish-Hungarian relations by the steps taken concerning Ottoman works in Hungary."

"Negotiations about the projects that can contribute to the continuation of increasing cultural and economic relations between Turkey and Hungary has become more concrete with a memorandum of understanding signed during Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s visit to Hungary on February 5, 2013."

" Primarily a memorandum of understanding was signed based on mutual goodwill to protect the common history of the two countries, including the restoration of Ottoman monuments in Hungary and the Turkish House located in Szigetvár. Afterwards a Research Support Agreement was signed in order to locate and rebuilt Suleiman the Magnificent’s tomb where his internal organs were buried during his final campaign at Szigetvár Castle. With this agreement it is intended to locate and reestablish Ottoman monuments in Hungary with archaeological and historical research and shed light on Turkish-Hungarian mutual history. As a continuation of the mutual good intention the two countries have shown for cooperation, the Hungarian Development Bank President paid a visit to Turkey along with a delegation. "

News website of the Hungarian government ( authentic ).

February 10, 2016 !!!

"Mr. Çavuşoğlu told reporters that earlier in the day he had held talks with Speaker of Parliament László Kövér and would later also be meeting with Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade/MTI)

The Turkish Foreign Minister highlighted opportunities in Turkish-Hungarian energy cooperation and the significance of inter-parliamentary relations, in addition to which he welcomed the fact that Hungary has always supported Turkey’s accession to the European Union. The EU and Turkey are interdependent, they need each other, he stressed."

"On the subject of Hungarian-Turkish cooperation, Mr. Szijjártó told the press that Hungary has offered 150 scholarships to Turkish students to attend universities in Hungary. According to the latest non-final figures, trade turnover between Turkey and Hungary was around 3 billion euros last year, and in view of the tough competition for economic cooperation opportunities, Eximbank is providing a 200 million US Dollar credit line to facilitate cooperation between Hungarian and Turkish enterprises, he announced."

Muslims have a long history in Europe.

Historian have discovered what they believe to be the shrine and mosque where the internal remains of Süleyman the Magnificent were interred in 1566.

A joint Turkish-Hungarian team uncovered structures in southern Hungary where Süleyman’s organs were buried following his death during a Balkan campaign.

The site near Szigetvar, which was under siege by Süleyman’s Ottoman army when he died, includes a “sultan-like structure,” researchers said at a news conference in Budapest.

“Hexagonal structures found during the excavation proves that this site is a sultan-like structure,” said Ali Uzay Peker, a Turkish academic from Middle East Technical University’s architecture department.

“The mosque and the shrine were built side by side. The fact that a minaret could not be found during the first excavation indicates that this is a shrine. At this stage we can say that we found the site of Süleyman’s shrine.”

Süleyman was the longest reigning sultan of the Ottoman Empire and presided over its golden age for 46 years. As well as military conquests in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, he instituted major legislative reforms and was a keen patron of the arts and technology.

Norbert Pap, who heads the project, said the excavation had been made possible through the support of Turkish development agency TİKA and the Hungarian government.

Evliya Çelebi, who visited the region in 1664, states that a shrine, mosque and Ottoman compound were in the region, he said, outlining the evidence for naming the site as Süleyman’s tomb.

“A Hungarian noble also painted the monuments in the region around the same time. According to a scientific study we conducted based on these two pieces of information, we detected a compound belonging to the Ottoman era as well as the site where Süleyman the Magnificent’s internal organs were buried.”
What is thought to be the sultan’s tomb is located in a former Ottoman settlement that was destroyed in the 1680s and rediscovered in 2013.

It is believed Süleyman’s organs were buried in Hungary and his body taken back to his capital, where it is still entombed at the Süleymaniye Mosque, one of Istanbul’s best-known sights.

Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Yalçın Akdoğan said the discovery was “important for us spiritually, just as important as the discovery of other Ottoman monuments in the region.”

He said the search for Süleyman’s remains had been going on for the last 120 years and pledged the government’s continued support for the project.

Muslims have a long history in Europe.
How profound.

In my opinion it thing is not too profound and not too long. They conquered only in South-East Europe. They lived in Hungary only 150 years, then the Hungarian ousted the Turks and the Kingdom of Hungary reestablished in the 18th Century.

What???That's a joke? :) :) :)

"Ottoman Hungary was the territory of Medieval Hungary which was ruled by the Ottoman Empire from 1541 to 1699. Ottoman rule covered mostly the central and southern territories of the former medieval Kingdom of Hungary as almost the entire region of the Great Hungarian Plain (except the northeastern parts) and Southern Transdanubia... Muslim schools: In the seventeenth century, 165 elementary (mekteb) and 77 secondary and academic theological schools (medrese) were operating in 39 of the major towns of the region.... "

It is interesting that Hungary is the center of this attention given that Huns were a Turkic people according to many anthropologists.

I've been on holiday to Budapest about 15 years ago and I was wowed by the amount of arabian looking architecture and numnber of turkish baths there were there. Beautiful place. I was also amazed at how much WWI memorabilia was available on the flea markets from the losing side.

Let's be fair to the Austrians here. The Turks were ousted with Habsburg help, then after a few bloody battles and the Metternich's Reign of Terror era later the two countries became Austria-Hungarian Empire.
