In 1984, I read his book, Counting the Eons.

It was the first book I ever read so full of nonsense and silliness that I took copious notes and critiqued it, then sent my notes to the publisher who forwarded them to Isaac Asimov.

First I will show you the postcard Isaac wrote to me and then I will critique his ignorant postcard, which by the way I sold on E-Bay for $75 ! Woot.

Asimov Letter My Name Erased.jpg

I covered over my name and address.

In his few sentences here, Asimov's ignorance is in full throat.

1. He blames the failure of religion on religion, neglecting the obvious fact that if you do not follow the precepts, the instructions, then you cannot blame the book which you purposely ignored and neglected.

2. On the subject of "humanity's social ignorance and weakness," consider that:
A. Isaac Asimov neglected his own family to pursue his passion of self-aggrandizing writing. His referenced book is 1230 pages in length, a horribly boring read. I quit after just a few dozen pages which blathered needlessly and said nothing anyone would care about.
B. Asimov's son, who he long neglected, was arrested in Northern California a few years ago for possession of child pornography on his computer. Shades of Hunter Biden! What kind of fathers raise these kinds of sons?
C. Asimov was SO INGNORANT that he refused to fly on any commercial aircraft, which happen to be ten times safer per passenger mile than driving a car.
D. Asimov became a fervent atheist after he prayed to God to help him pass a chemistry test in high school. After he failed it, he renounced God for the remainder of his miserable life. Asimov would show God, by God!

3. On the subject of my critique, Asimov completely ignored all of it, not because it was without merit, but because he had no answers and he knew it. I'll just provide a few examples for Asimov sycophants to grind their teeth on:

Page 12 "If the tube (used to breath through when underwater) is long enough and wide

enough, all the exhaled air remains in that long tube and you will breathe the same air over

and over again and it will not be long before you suffocate".

[Wrong again. If you extend a tube a mere 18" under water, and position yourself vertically

below it, the hydrostatic pressure precludes you from inspiring your first breath. I have tried it

as a scuba diver. EVEN IF that were not the case, his argument still fails. Exhale out your

nose.]

Page 21: "Raise the temperature of ice and it melts."

[Ice melts at a constant temperature - 0 degrees C.]

Page 150: ". . . there is an object a mile above the surface of the earth that is moving upward

at a constant speed. We can tell when it started its journey . . . there is nothing in the upward

direction to stop, we could conclude that it would travel forever and its journey would have no

end."

[Let's not complicate "science" with, oh say wind resistance, or even gravity. Such

oversights make his poor writing look as trivial as, "negative energy"!]

Hateful, condescending, ignorant atheist who neglected his wife and son. He's a Poster Child for Leftists. And "Jane Fonda was a good actress" some will say. How about that Adolph Hitler. Great speaker, eh? He and Obama.....

I exposed the ugly side of the smiling rich white man. You defend him on the basis of his story telling. And the crowd chose Barabbas.

LMAO! Wow. You are really going overboard here, aren't you?

Believe it or not, there are millions of people who do not believe what you believe. But feel free to ridicule them all.

All I know about the guy is that he was a great writer of science fiction novels. also that he may have foreseen the emergence of someone like Donald Trump and 'trumpism' before his death....
There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge. -

Notice how he managed to drag the Bidens, with insults, into his little critique of a dead writer.

So your real complaint is he's white.

Asimov is one of the great in Science Fiction. In fact, some of his fiction has transferred over to the real world.

He is not just loved by leftists. He is loved by fans of science fiction, the world over.
Known as the founder of Robotics..and his Foundation series invented the science of psyco-history--the use of large scale predictive models applied to predict future trends.

I don't doubt he was a dick..a lot of math heads are. His writing was seminal..along with Clarke and Heinlein. I doubt that he was stupid though..perhaps his judgement was correct?

Why don't you moderate more and chip in your two cents less. The injustice is that I cannot put you on Ignore, where you deserve to be.

Sorry, I have to go with Isaac, I think it is you who missed his points, at least in one example. The underwater tube is an example. You used a length of 18" but that is not what he said. If you used a tube 18' would the results be the same? 18 yards? 18 miles?

OBOY! A Count-the-fallacies quiz. OK here's what I got in order of appearance:

1. Ipse dixit (purported letter from Asimov) (but I don't have it any more) (yeah right)
2. Non sequitur (point 1)
3-4. Ad Hominem AND Red Herring {point 2A)
5-6. Additional Red Herring, Composition (point 2B)
7. Ironic misspelling and additional Non Sequitur (2C)
8. Yet another Ipse Dixit (2D)
9. Still more Ipse Dixit/Burden of Proof (Point 3)
10. Unmitigated Snowjobbery ("page 21") (does not contradict the premise)
11. Cherrypicking ('page 150") - no context given.

Did I miss any?

"There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there always has been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that ‘my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.’ " --- Isaac Asimov, actual real linkable published article, Newsweek, 21 January 1980 (41 years ago tomorrow)

Asimov was one of the great writers of hard science fiction (and also a professor of biochemistry). I, like most people who read his prolific writings, couldn't care less about his religious beliefs.

I moderate when needed and participate in threads as I choose. Being a mod does not mean I no longer post in various threads.

Leftists such as you certainly do care a great deal about Christians whom you relentlessly attack as "fundies" and "Bible-thumpers" who "are anti-science." Your hypocrisy is disgusting.
I couldn't care less about science fiction. I read and pursue science, and history, and apologetics, and ideas. I marvel when someone who is SUPPOSED to be as intelligent as Asimov writes such ignorant fabrications, and marvel even more that he was so disgusting a human. Evidently Leftists are terribly offended at what Trump did in the privacy of his meetings with willing women, but simply giggle and ignore Asimov's abandonment of his family.

Now if I never reply to another post of yours, it will be because I never read another of them. Like most all Leftists, you don't add any information or perspective. You subtract from them instead.

First of all, please point out where I attack Christians. I would say "I will wait", but since I haven't attacked Christians your post is a lie.

Second of all, the fact that you don't care about, or read, science fiction your thread is an obvious hit piece.

Third of all, his writings were not ignorant fabrications. Asimov was an actual scientist who wrote some of the best hard science fiction ever written.

Fourth of all, Asimov married his first wife in 1941. The couple separated in 1970. 29 years is a long time. They had known each other for 6 months before they married. And his son, David, was (and is) a rather dull boy. This comes from other people who knew him, not his father. And David was 19 years old when his parents separated. Not exactly a child.

Whether you reply to my posts or not is up to you. Whether I reply to your posts is up to me.
