States run by Republican governors on average have economically outperformed states run by Democratic governors in recent months.

The difference in economic growth is likely due to the pathway of the coronavirus pandemic in the first few months and the economic restrictions imposed by Democratic governors.

Overall, Democratic-run states, particularly those in the Northeast and Midwest, had larger contractions in gross domestic product than Republican-run states in the Plains and the South, according to the latest state GDP data for the second quarter of 2020, released by the Commerce Department on Friday. Of the 20 states with the smallest decrease in state GDP, 13 were run by Republican governors, while the bottom 25 states with the highest decrease in state GDP were predominantly Democratic-run states.

Furthermore, the average unemployment rate across Republican states was 6.5% in August, compared to an average of 9% in Democrat states, according to an analysis of unemployment data by the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank.

There are multiple factors that lead to the split between the outcomes in Democratic and Republican states.

“The different economic shutdown policies and restrictions plays a big role,” said a senior economist in the Trump administration.

“But you also have to remember that in the second quarter, many Republican states hadn’t really been hit by the virus yet, like Texas, Arizona, and parts of Florida,” the official said. He said that Republican states were hit worse by the virus in the third quarter than the second, as the pandemic spread west and south.

“Also, the mix of industries in each state could also affect the economic growth, like Nevada, which is hugely dependent on travel and tourism,” the official added.

In spite of our dropping unemployment rate, the Democrats are still trying to tug the other way hoping to maintain a bad economy up to election day. We on the right have insisted this has been their plot all along, but the left are convinced by their puppet masters their leaders are stalling the economy for their own good.

Now that we have some results to look at, and what Biden said in his own words that he's be willing to shutdown the country if necessary, we have to ask ourselves if we want the entire country to be managed like these low performing blue states.

If you are a Trump hater, you have to ask yourself before voting: Do you hate Trump more than you love our country, or is it the other way around?

I don't think its working....the economy is too strong for the dems to completely smother it....all the dems are doing is inflicting pain and suffering onto small business owners....and those business owners all vote...TRUMP 2020.....

Perhaps but it is working to the point of retarding our national unemployment numbers. That's all they want. Imagine if they weren't doing this. Our unemployment rate dropped to 7.9% in September. It could be back down in the 6% range right now if they were not pulling their stunts, perhaps 5% by November.

Maybe there is a solution....

Leave it to the states to handle the economic fallout in their own state (without the red states having to bail out the blue states for their failures)...

Then watch the blue states implode from the budget shortfalls!!!

If you play, you pay!!!

Yes, but that's kind of long term. What they are doing now is specifically for the election which is only a month away. The more racism, riots and failing economy they can create, the better for them.

And this is why Pelosi doesn't want a deal.....but I hope and believe that the American people can see what is going on even though the media is lying to them....

Trump will trump the media as soon as he recovers from COVID-19, a game that is coming to an end thanks to science. China joe is the type that will secretly think Trump is lying about his infection, but must keep such hallucinations to himself.

I really don't think any logical person thinks Trump made this all up. It doesn't benefit him in any way. If anything, it hurts him.

Trump didn't win in the last debate, but he didn't lose either. It was sort of a draw so he gained nothing in round one. That's why it's so important for him to get back in the ring for round two and knock Biden's lights out, something he could have easily done in round one.

Yeah, but the media for once is not being so biased. I see reporting that neither the House or Senate are moving anything through. If both are getting the blame, they could lose leadership of the House as well, so this would be a gamble for them.

It is working unfortunately, at least according to the source I started the OP with. The real question is are they going to continue after the election?

The unemployment rate is higher than the reported rats. Also even red states will have to have massive layoffs which will lead to further damage. What limited the economic damage was the large stimulus which was passed by Congress. Now Republicans are refusing to pass another bill. No less than the Fed chairman Jerome Powell says we need another large stimulus package. Republicans show they have no clue how to help the economy.

Biden said he would institute a national lockdown if the medical experts advised him to do so. That is what Trump should be doing rather than spreading the coronavirus.

A vote for Trump shows how much you hate this country. Trump represents the far right wing fascism that exists in this country.

Why would red states have to have massive layoffs? Didn't you read the OP? Unemployment has been dropping the last few months. The market is recovered and doing well. If Biden would get in and shutdown the country (which he has no constitutional authority to do) our unemployment rate will start going the other way.

The Republicans are not refusing to pass another bill, they are refusing to pass a pork laden bill from the Democrats wish list. Trump announced today that if the Democrats are willing to send him a bill just for the stimulus checks, he won't hesitate to sign it. It's Democrats who are holding America hostage, not Trump or the Republicans.

Biden plans to increase taxes on our job creators.
Biden plans to increase capital gains taxes which will ruin our stock market.
Biden plans to destroy suburbs causing massive property value losses.
Biden plans to make us green which will double or more the cost of energy.

If you hate America, the best way to show that is vote for Joe Biden.

The unemployment rate in Ohio is 8.9% The unemployment rate in Florida is 7.4%. That is why they will have to slash spending. Missouri has been forced to do this as well, The market has nothing to do with main street. There is no doubt the rich and well off are doing well. Biden does have the authority to institute a national lockdown if it becomes medically necessary. John Roberts had it right
when he wrote that judges should not substitute their judgement for that of elected officials and experts. The fact is the unemployment rate will not go down until the coronavirus is defeated whether through stringent measures such as a national lockdown or a vaccine developed without political pressure.

It is the Republicans who are holding us hostage. There should be a comprehensive bill. $1200 checks will do nothing if states and local governments are forced to institute massive layoffs. DeWine has fiscal issues. DeSantis does as well Larry Hogan, Susan Collins and John Kennedy realize this and recognize that states need fiscal help not as a bailout but to replace lost revenue. Republicans are abandoning Trump and telling Trump to resume negotiations.

The fact is that taxes are going to have to go up. Not necessarily to 70% but there may need to be a 5-10% tax surcharge to pay for what we are having to spend.
Everybody is going to have to pay. However I would support a transactions tax on Wall Street.
Biden is not going to do anything to the suburbs. Just more hogwash.
Many Republicans also believe that the party should develop global warming policies that are in between doing nothing as Trump favors and more draconian measures.

You Trump supporters are disgusting. Your opinion on who is destroying America is hysterical nonsense. You do not get to decide who is anti-America or not. You would have said the same thing about Martin Luther King.
