I don't know that these issues can be corrected at the national level. Groups like Convention Of States seem like a good way to go to pull the reigns back on the federal government. Of course, they get canceled and blocked at every turn: the federal power structure has unlimited resources to spend on making sure COS don't get too far with their plans. Maybe the best thing to do is circle the wagons up on a local basis. There are strong secession movements in Hawaii, Texas, parts of Washington and Oregon, maybe others.

Socialism is always conservative when it comes to things like fiscal responsibility.
I never lived anywhere Bernie was running, but WI was always socialist and had the lowest government spending.
For example, the transit buses, school buses, and garbage trucks were all municipal, so they could switch drivers or vehicles as needed. The garbage trucks did double duty as street snow plows.
Very fiscally conservative.
